After seeing the drawing of the trailer you have, I think that you can safely modify the side rails to accommodate your mower.
The additional rigidity you get from the rail is not in the uprights but in the angle welded to the top of the uprights. It doesn't matter how high they are.
You could start just behind the wheels, drop the rail to just off the deck, and still maintain the integrity of the frame.

I was talking about the operational weight of the mower. I broke the bead on one of my gauge wheels, on my 600lb 72" First Choice finish mower yesterday. When I turned real tight on soft ground. Brandon's mower weighs an additional 200+ lbs, running on @ the same size tires. I'm not sure that adding more weight to an already heavy mower is such a good idea. Maybe JimMC will have an answer to this.

I hadn't considered that but I think if a wheel was broken while turning too sharply, that is more a function of lateral force put on the joint than it's weight. Not sure if 200# either way would have made a difference.

That would work, But after looking at my trailer I am thinking that I might have to back the tractor on to get the propper weight distibution on the trailer. The 20' trailers have the wheels pushed more towords the rear that a 18' or 16'. I think it would also be nice to have the flexability to got either way.

I am using Fireworks4 to do the drawings. Not exactly made to do it but works.

However a good deal of it occurred when I put my 600 lb mower onto ground that was to soft. And the ruts didn't allow the tire and wheel to pivot right away. Just another S.N.A.F.U. from being in to much of a hurry.
Your ideas are quite valid and innovative. I was just trying to look at it from a perspective of keep it simple. Producing a savings of time, material, cost and possible equiptment stress.
