911 Emergency! Lost all Forward, Reverse & Power Steering!

Exactly what ptsg mentioned. My first thought was the pump shaft... but the more I think about this the more I think its something else. Since you have hydraulic function on the FEL and BH, I do not think the pump shaft is the culprit, but does fit part of the bill. Check linkages, clutch pedal play (see your manual for acceptable limits)... I really don't think it is that. If the clutch wont engage, you wont be able to put it into gear.... leaning towards the linkages. Something popped out.

I'd love to get my hands on this.

edit: Good grief, reading this post is like a look inside my head. Mashed up thoughts of jumbled up randomness. Hopefully there is something in there you can use.

The FEL, 3pt and backhoe works because it uses another pump dedicated to those functions.

A GST tractor is a bit more complex that a simple clutch pedal adjustment or linkages on gear levers. Pretty sure it doesn't have a dry clutch, need to confirm that over on Messicks parts website though.

I don't know however if that tractor uses a tandem pump, or two separate pumps. If it uses tandem, the shaft or coupler can break between the two pumps and not necessarily at the camshaft drivetrain end.

Avenger, just to be clear: No BH on this machine. FEL and 3ph hydraulics work just fine though; so no change to the symptoms.

Looking at page 7-M2 of the WMS, they show the steering hydraulic circuit. Circuit "A" goes to the 3ph hydraulic system and others. Circuit "B" goes to the PTO Clutch Valve, HST, GST Valve. (Note that I have the GST). I recall that the PTO was working at the time of the malf; I distinctly recall turning it off after the failure.

I can't post the picture in the WSM; but basically to get to Circuit "B" you have to have both the hydraulic pump and steering controller. I haven't checked Messicks, but I'm betting a good amount of money that the pump = $$$$ and the steering controller is not far behind it. :(

Found a WSM for the l3130, L3430, L3840, L4630 and L5030 on Kubotabooks.com.

Is this different that your L4330? I'm studying this manual. The steering, GST and PTO pump has a regulating valve on top of it. It can be as simple as a broken spring or trash holding a spool open.

I could be wrong but wouldn't a bad pump give some warning, rather than fail catastrophically the way the OP describes?

If it's the coupler between the two pumps, it wouldn't give any warning. It would simply break. Part 2 on this picture.

Title is exactly the same, but my version includes the L4330.

Let's hope that's all it is. My fear is that the dealer will just R&R either pump or the steering controller rathen than fix. Not sure which would be cheaper. but a simple R&R would easy vs. rebuilding.

My neighbor came over this morning with his 95 hp Kubota tractor; took us about 2 hours to get everything loaded and tied down, plus fix a leaking trailer tire.

I took it to the local dealer. After having a bad experience with a locally-owned independent tractor repair place, I decided the safe - but expensive - bet was to take it to the dealer.

Will update when the dealer calls.

Thanks,

Hydraulic pump out. $2100.

Ouch! That hurts.

Any more details on it? Was it wear? Something broke?

Won't know until I pick it up. I *should* be able to keep the old pump, so maybe I can fix it and sell it.

The Grand Lxx30 series tractors have a main dry clutch on the FST, GST and HST transmissions but the GST also has electro hydraulic forward reverse wet clutch packs. The shuttle lever controls the forward and reverser but the gear selector is just a POT that goes to the GST box and it reads resistance and tells what hydraulic actuators need to be activated to shift the gear forks and then activate the clutch packs. If the ECU dies there are plugs by the right rear of the seat to plug together for putting tractor to one gear for moving. If the hydraulic flow to the transmission fails do not think there is anything you can do if the hydraulic pump or regulator valve goes as the clutch packs need fluid to run. There is a TSB for the Grand Lxx30 tractors about extended idling such as using a backhoe in a certain angle that will starve the hydraulic pump of lubricating oil and a bearing fails, seizes pump and breaks thing. The fix is a kit with new oil filter base, pump holder and an oil line going between the two so that there is pressure lubrication to the bearings

You have a TSB number I could look up and send to the dealer? Thanks!
