acetone increases mileage?

Should the magnets be freshly ground or added whole? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There was a very long running discussion of this at another forum.

I have reservations about any additives, as I believe anything which had such miraculous results would be added before the pumps.

Actually if the ketone could reduce the surface tension of the gasoline, it might make for a slightly more efficant burn due to better vaporization. Plus the acetone should really help to clean up the fuel system. It is also 150 octane! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like it might be worth a shot, I'm gonna try it next time I fill up that gas hog ranger of mine with 2 ounces per 10 gallons.

**** if it doesn't work, I'm only out like a freaking measly 10¢... less than the price diffrence of 1 gallon of "mid grade"!

How many magnet should you put in the tank? I tried putting them in and was having a heck of time. They kept sticking in the filler tube to the tank /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hey Ben,

Please advise, on where to get COW MAGNETS . And can they be put all over the car to help with the gas atomizations? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On 2nd thought, will also add the Acetone , for good measure. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

yeah, I'm going to try it anyway. From what I have read acetone is in a lot of additives anyway and it has a general cleaning effect. It's cheap and as long as you don't spill it when you are putting it in it shouldn't cause any harm. The tripmeter will tell if I keep doing it or not.

Hey Tim,

By all means, let us know, how it affects your mileage. I am hopeful, that it will not harm your engine, but at this point, I am thinking, that it is just too risky for me.

I remember, reading about the harmful affects of Methanol, on the carb, and rubber parts, so I am thinking, that something like that may be the result of Acetone, but I really just don't have enough knowledge about what the affects of Acetone would have on the fuel system and the engine.

Best of Luck though,

Added 9 mL acetone per gallon of gas... or 3 oz per 10 gallons.

Drove for about 6 miles and noticed the engine was running a lil smoother.

Drove for another 30 miles. Noticed the valves were not chattering going up hills.

When I got home, the truck appeared to idle much smoother.

No mileage data yet, but I'll keep using it just cause my engine runs better.

I heard that hanging a plucked, dead chicken from your radio antenna will increase mileage.

Hey Alan,

Well, that would have a perfectly, logical explaination. As the Chicken, most probably, disrupted the air flow, in such a way, to make the vehicle slide through the air with less drag and air disruption, therefore giving the vehicle the ability to have more MPG. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Which now, fully explains why, many in the older days, used Coon Tails on their Radio Antenni, and I fully expect for the same reason, for a much smoother running engine and much improved fuel combustion, therefore resulting in improved gasoline mileage. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I am hopeful, that the poor people, in this country, do not ireprebly harm their internal combustion engines, by putting a harmful additive into thier gasoline tanks. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Although, I am sure that there will be some or many that will surely do so, with the vehicles, winding up in the salvage yards or on a used car dealers parking lot, to be resold again. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

All jokes aside, anyone reading these threads, should not risk using their own personal vehicle's as an experimentation device to prove or disprove, whether the said additive ACETONE , will improve their engine's performance.
