Adding a New ZD1211-60 to the Arsenal

I haven't used either having never had enough property to warrant anything other than a push mower. That changed when we bought 7.5 acres in Oct with at least 5 acres being mowable. As far as rear discharge...I settled on that after having done my research online and deciding that is the way I wanted to go. How I arrived at that decision is tough to say as the people that like side discharge seem to far outnumber the rear discharge folks. I have no doubt that I will be happy with it though and can't wait to get it. BTW...thanks for the description of the mowing deck...it might almost make a mulching kit obsolete or at least an added expense for little gain.

These people are not telling that they've never owned a rear discharge deck. Ask anyone that says they prefer a side discharge deck if they have actually owned and used for one season a rear discharged deck.
Most of us rear discharge deck owners will never go back as long as there is a rear discharge deck available. I've seen some dealers post here and my own dealer seems (I had to insist on a Rear discharge deck for my ZD326 and glad I did) to be anti rear discharge deck but they to have never owned one for personal use and passing on stories from other people without actual hands on experience is pretty low on my acceptance/credability level. If one mows over real high grass they will clump up which seems to shock some people but a side discharge deck does the same under the same high grass conditions. I've even seem here where one person told how bad a rear discharge deck does with wet grass, duh. Said the tires cause the wet grass to lay down a strip of cut grass like the side discharge wouldn't do the same thing with the tires rolling over wet cut grass.

Well the day has arrived. Its here. I cant wait to mow with it. Its every thing the Turd Cadet RZT isnt fast, smooth, quiet, and well built.

In with the new out with the old. Cleaned up the Turd Cadet which I'm giving away. I couldnt justify selling it. I'm not sure how the manufacturer in good concious thought it was a good idea in the first place.

Xring100...what issues did you have with your rzt? I have an rzt54 and it has been decent for me for the price. I do wish that I had simply spent more money and bought a more beefy zero turn...one with a fabricated deck, a suspension seat, and foot pedal for deck height. I have the kawasaki engine, which I like.

Btw...I do really like your new Kubota zero turn. I would def consider one of those when my Cub dies. I recently bought my neighbor's BX2200, which I love.

Thanks warment. To date with 15 hours i only have two complaints. The 1211s rear track width is just under 60" which is wider than the zd326 for stability. There is only about 3" of deck over hang extended past the rear tires on the trim side. I find it harder to trim around trees. Than the old cub. A
Kubota shifts the deck over to actually allow for some overhang on the trim side. On the chute side you actually drive over a few inches of uncut grass.

My second complaint is that with the rops folded down its still a remendous pain in the arse. Its in the neighborhood of 5 feet high in the lowered position and incredibly wide. I snagged a branch last week on one of my maple trees and found my self doing a wheelie as the rops slide under the branch. I have since trimmed a lot of lower branches from my trees. With the rops up it just clears a 7ft door. If the rops had a lower position you would not be able to open the hood. I have only very slight grades in my yard and have no need for it.

It has knocked 30minutes off my mowing time 42 minutes versus 95 minutes before. I topped off fuel at 6.6. And 9.9 hours worked out to just under 1.0 gph but some of that time was just pulling a yard cart and aerator. The briggs burned about 1.1 -1.2 gph and mowed 50% slower

The engine is silkey smooth and quiet compared to the old briggs. I think the water cooled cast iron block and hood help this out. It has what looks to be a about a 30-40 lb fly wheel attached which helps its from bogging down in deep stuff. Definetly a torquey engine compared to gas it might drop a few rpms but doesn't seem to bog down like the old mower where i actually had to slow down to let it catch up.

The cut is very impressive much smoother and way more uniform dispersion of the clippings. The high blade speed definetly helps but makes the mower fairly noisy when cutting

On our ZD326 I turned the left rear wheel around which dished it in about 3" which made it a lot easier to trim with, not sure if you could do that on the new series or not.
