Adding a storm shelter

Better yet….. i live in an area without earthquakes or tornadoes

I tend to get claustrophobic in small spaces. I don't think I'd be able to enter that shelter. Seeing a large tornado approaching might just change all that...........

It's like the tenderfoot who asked his guide what he should do if a bear shows up. The guide said "climb a tree".

The tenderfoot said, "What if the tree isn't easy to climb?" The guide said "Don't worry, if a bear is chasing you, you will be able to climb it'

The tenderfoot said "What do I do if the bear starts climbing up after me?
The guide said "Throw poop at it"

The tenderfoot said "what if there is no poop nearby?
The guide said "don't worry, it'll be there"

The guide says "Did you file off the front sight?"

The tender foot says "Why, is that for night shooting?"

The guide says "No, that's so it won't hurt so much when the bear shoves it up your rear"

Or when a griz approaches and one guy says to the other I hope we can outrun the bear... and the other guy says no not really, I just need to outrun you.

I put this together for a customer a while back. It eats up garage space but I like the design a lot better than the below ground ones. It’s also capable of being taken apart from the inside if debris are blocking the door.

It’s pretty similar in construction besides the lack of insulation for fire resistance.

I am thinking if you were stuck inside you could pop one of the vents and shoot a flare or stick a bicycle flag out and wave it.

On the sump pump, I realize sheltering from a tornado is a reletively short time. But, depending on your water table do you think a manual pump would be worth considering?
