You want some advice? It ain't gonna be purty.
With the terrible economy worldwide...
If you can't pay cash for the machine,truck,trailer,insurance,...etc...
And still have an extra 20k or more laying around you will not be happy.
The only reason I'm still in business is because I have no other employees and am debt free.
Excellant Advice. Do not go against it. I did. I advertised, nailed signs to post, sponsered functions, showed up on time and was honest and fair. ASV did not help me and my machine sucked every penny I made and thousands more.

I'll SELL you my machine!!!!
I like Dirtyworks slogan (Quickest way to a small fortune is start with a large fortune & buy a Mulcher) HAHAHA

The dedicated mulching machines are Great if the demand in your area supports it ,or you want to travel. If I was single I'd probably go there.

The best part about the Bobcat t320 is the fact that I can carry a bucket and root grapples along with the mulcherhead attached to a local job and the customer sees that I'm capable of performing at least 3 different types of work and they usually want more work done while I'm there even if it takes an extra day or two.The air compressor is bolted to the trailer.

I have experience doing grading work, and thought with all the attachments made for ctls I could do alot more than just mulch.

I know several grading contractors that barely have any work at all right now. These are multi-generational family business that are well established and have decades worth of happy customers.

Are you going to be able to stand out above these contractors and the rest of them out there?

If you think that working for a cheaper rate will seperate you from the rest of the contractors out there, you will just be bankrupt sooner.

I wish you luck, but you need a good business plan to start with. Anybody can go out and purchase a piece of equipment and operate it and bring in revenue. The difference is being able to run a business!! There is a big difference in the two.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the tone is correct. We purchased a Bobcat T320 with all the forestry package 3 years ago. We bought this with the understanding that we may not get a dime back. We have lots of timberland and figured it would eventually be a benefit to us. We have slowly grown using commercials, internet, posters, flyers, mailings, you name it. But even with the modest investment in the T320 (we had about $97,000 with all attachments and upgrades) if we had to make payments for the first few years we would have been broke.

It can be done, but you need to be able to pay cash for the equipment and not expect to be able to get a paycheck for yourself for at least a year or two. Your repairs, service, fuel, and advertising will comsume every penny.

Timark80 - Everything is so nice and shiny. Must have been the day you brought it home. Sure wish ours still looked like that! Looks just like our setup except we also carry a brushcat and pull it with a long nose Pete. One of the benefits of the 30 year old trucking company my partner owns. Wish I had a good pic, but this is all I've got of the rig...

It's easy to keep clean when only working part-time.
Up close the scratches really show.
That Pete sure is heavy duty.
How many hours do you have on your t320?
Here lately the workload has been gradually increasing.Making more $ than last year!
The magnetic signs on my pickup truck and handing out business cards with a firm handshake seem to be helping the most so far.

Sorry for the delay, been out of town on a job. Just crossed 1000 hours on the T320. I guess we just get in the tight/thick spots and scratch all of the stickers off. We just got finished working 3 weeks in what seemed like the amazon jungle. Glad that's over with.

Yeah, the pete is heavy duty, but it doubles as a stand by rig in my partners trucking company. If one goes down, the pete goes back in the fleet and I pull the T320 with my super duty and a gooseneck. But it's so heavy it hurts my feelings. I'm grossing about 27K lbs in a F350. Luckily, it rarely happens.

Just wanted to offer a couple things based on comments in a previous thread (ASV Broke) and some things here.

-Terex/ASV does offer an undercarrige rebuild package. Part # 0403-531. If you have major undercarriage repairs, particularily if the machine is in need of tracks also, the package may be the most cost effective long term solution. While no doubt the whole package is a fair size investment, if you need tracks they are a good portion of the cost. The package includes complete new rolling componants so all the bearings, wheels, sprocket, and so on. Any dealer should be able to provide details, pricing, or review the most cost effective solution for your particular situation. Or, if you need assistance and have questions, as always, you can give me or anyone at the Terex/ASV team a call. 800-346-4367.

-Another advantage to this package is that it includes all the upgrades of the PT-100 Forestry. Those include things like all metal face seal tubes (vs lip seals on the RC-100's), Improved outboard bearing, heavier frame rail, a new track compound specifically designed in forestry, and other various upgrades.

-Terex/ASV continues to make changes and product improvements. We continue to monitor feedback, and sites like this one, using your feedback to drive future development. Forestry is one area we have made many changes. As many of you know, early RC-100's were not forestry machines, they were put in forestry by owners. Feedback of those owners, drove development of the PT-100 Forestry. It features things like a sealed and pressurized cab, the undercarriage changes mentioned above, a reversing cooling fan, and other Forestry designs.

-Speaking of continued change. For any of you who have not yet looked at the PT-100G, and PT-100G Forestry I would encourage you to look at the advancements Terex is bringing to market. 45 GPM! 3770 PSI. With 1" lines and reduced backpressure throughout the system making over 10 more HP at the attachment than the already class leading PT-100. Reversing fan. Completely new undercarriage featuring 4 wheel design for better track guiding and track life. All metal face seals for improved bearing life. Independantly suspended wheels for improved ride. New drive motor and planetary design with 10% more tractive effort which equals easier turning and maneverability in the woods. 20" wide tracks on the Forestry model. And for operator comfort a pressurized and sealed cab, suspended seat, and stereo. Electronic controls with adjustable settings and patterns. Full display panel with an array of guages and warnings. These are just a few of the new features.

-In the meanwhile, I would be glad to work with any of you to resolve any questions not answered above, undercarriage repairs as these machines get older, or help assist with best available options. We always welcome calls, we are listening, and we will continue to help support you while the engineering team at Terex continues to bring new products like the PT-100G which will surely expand and change the Skid Steer size cutter market, again...
