I'm not sure I understand your question. The simple answer is that I tightened the hose clamp until it was tight. :D When I first put it on, I didn't have a hose clamp of the right size, so I used a couple of rubber bands. I thought it would fall off, but that was enough to keep it in place. The hose clamp is MUCH better than the rubber bands.

My hose seems so soft that i would think the rubber would just crush, and the bag thing would just flop off. I dunno maybe i have never though of clamping something to it?

I put a piece of window screen zip tied to the front grill. It cut way down on the amount of fluff that made it to the radiator screen and im sure to the intake tube as well. Although i need to replace it as it was old used screen and got torn last year and then finially ripped off in one of my fields. I did see it on a pass though 2 weeks ago on the first time bushhoging this year that field.

...after reading on here that the original yanmar filters were a washable cloth.
My US YM240 has a decal on the filter housing showing instructions for cleaning and reusing the element; with 1000 hour replacement interval. They must mean the mythical and unobtainable fabric/wire wool element.

Long ago I posted that photo uh - elsewhere. Mark777 (a Yanmar restorer) replied "Hmmm, thats interesting. I'm wondering if Yanmar is referencing the permanent wire wool and fabric, washable elements that you only occasionally see on a very few models? I can't think of one supplier that still has, or can acquire those any longer."

And later, Mark said the cleanable filter (after cleaning) weighs twice as much as a pleated filter so it is easy to tell them apart.

But I've never seen a washable cloth filter element, only the common pleated paper style.

Well maybe i was wrong about the construction. I am not sure what the original was made of. Mine does have the yanmar logo on it though. Maybe i was thinking of washable cloth because thats what the automotive ones are made of, like a cotton gause i beleive.

I know i did read that hoye was cloth filter media though.

Could you post a pic of the decal or just paraphrase the washing instructions?

Oops, sorry, I revised my post (above) to better match the photo I just added to it. I didn't notice there was already a reply to my initial text!

My intake hose feels pretty solid. The only thing I noticed about it was that it is kind of slippery on the outside. I was concerned the pre-filter might just vibrate off, but as I said, it stayed on even with just rubber bands holding it. It probably helps that the incoming air helps keep it in place.
