Air Cleaner

Aah, Twinkle Toes, Washington state west of the mountains; sure pretty country, but unfortunately, in the middle of Texas dust is NOT rare. In fact, it's the rule instead of the exception most of the year./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif And while I have a great deal of respect for Steve Carver and his opinions, if I changed my filter every time, instead of blowing it out, I'd be doing that nearly every time I used the tractor 6 months of the year./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Mark, that sounds about right. In our case, the best I could figure out, "meaningful concepts" meant change for the sake of change, but only if they were changes proposed by outside consultants instead of employees.

My favorite (?) was when I was Commander of the Personnel Division and they wanted me to hire convicted thieves and narcotic addicts as police officers. As the consultant said, "How do we know they wouldn't be good police officers; no one's ever given them a chance to see."

Bird,

In the Air Force, I spent some time in San Antonio (boot camp) and was stationed in Austin for awile. At that time all that I could afford for entertainment was gas @ 23 cents a gallon. I drove around a lot. I really enjoyed the time I spent there. You would have to drive a long way to find people that are as friendly as Texan's. On the other hand, you would have to drive a long way to find people that are not as friendly as Texan's, Texas is a really big state. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

We do blow out Air Cleaner elements if they are in good condition. Now to define: if the filter is discolored it gets replaced. If the filters paper has moved it gets replaced. Then we blow them out from the inside with indirect air at a reduced pressure so as not to hurt the paper element. A good rule of thumb is you should be able to see light thru it (not holes).

FWIW- The only time I keep a slightly dirty air filter element is when the wheat chaff builds up on it. To unclog it, I use our shop vac with a soft brush attachment. Brushing the chaff with the vacuum on in the direction of the vallies on the element often restored the element to its original near white condition.

I do the same with the radiator & radiator screen. Then I use a low pressure water spray to back flush the air vents. Works like a charm.

The new Buzz Phrase around my work place is "BPI" = Breakthrough Productivity Initiatives.

I'm sure I'll get on board with the program as soon as someone explains it to me?????

McCallum - That's one I hadn't heard, but I've mercifully been out of the big corporate world a while. It sure sounds like a tricky euphemism to me, though - I'd watch it if I were you. In particular, I think you should avoid "getting on board" until you observe what happens to a few other folks with less (soon to become more) experience. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

ANDY... I think the KEY WORD was "MORE OFTEN THAN NEEDED"... Then you need to change a filter change it.

Check out the K&N filter website. They have some good information on cleaing, how dirt buildup helps filtration, and some flow/filter efficiency comparisons of various filters that are new, used, cleaned ect.
