I may have to change my name, I traded in my 2004 Dodge Ram with a Cummins today on a Chevy. It almost hurts to type that but its true. It was the right truck at the right time. We got a good price and a good trade in amount.
Its an extended cab (the kind where the rear doors open backwards and interlock with the front doors), 3/4 ton, 6.0 gas, 4x4, LT, tow package, 3.73 rear gears, posi in back and a few other nice things. It seems like 3/4 tons are hard to find in this price range. The new truck has 46,000 miles on it. The back seat is just a touch smaller than the Quad Cab I traded in and much smaller than a crew cab. The bed is about 3 inches longer than the Dodge I traded in.
Things I like about it. The 6.0 doesn't pull like the Cummins and shifts more but it does a lot better for power than I was expecting. It drives much better on the highway at higher speeds. My Dodge had terrible wind noise and some vibration that I always thought was the drive shaft. The Dodge had 4.10 gears with a 4 speed and the Chevy had 3.73 gears with a 6 speed. It is so much quieter and vibration free. Its overall just a nicer truck, 7 years of technology and improvements makes a difference. The trip meter shows its getting 15 mpg. It was about an hour and a half drive and we had a head wind going up and a tail wind coming back with the new truck so I'm expecting the fuel mileage to get worse. It has great headlights also compared to the Dodge and seeing we live in a rural area with a lot of deer, thats nice. Its also certified used so its coming with a 12 month bumper to bumper warranty, on star, 3 months of XM radio, and 4 free oil changes.
Part of the deal of going truck shopping today was prom dress shopping with my wife and daughter afterwards. We bought the truck in Mount Pleasant Iowa and it seems its the prom dress capital of the world. Here is a pic while I was waiting outside the dress shop.
