The addition of the 6 speed allowed them to go to a 3.73 gear.

That dodge had to get better mileage, and I know it would pull that 6.0 backwards..If you are happy I guess that's all that counts.
You know you committed treason don't you ?:D

I should also add rust was a factor in getting rid of the Dodge. I've had the rockers and cab corners replaced and work done above the rear wheels. The rust was returning and I tired of the battle.

That makes sense why you switched.
Dodge and rust. A losing battle

I may have to change my name, I traded in my 2004 Dodge Ram with a Cummins today on a Chevy. It almost hurts to type that but its true. It was the right truck at the right time. We got a good price and a good trade in amount.

Its an extended cab (the kind where the rear doors open backwards and interlock with the front doors), 3/4 ton, 6.0 gas, 4x4, LT, tow package, 3.73 rear gears, posi in back and a few other nice things. It seems like 3/4 tons are hard to find in this price range. The new truck has 46,000 miles on it. The back seat is just a touch smaller than the Quad Cab I traded in and much smaller than a crew cab. The bed is about 3 inches longer than the Dodge I traded in.

Things I like about it. The 6.0 doesn't pull like the Cummins and shifts more but it does a lot better for power than I was expecting. It drives much better on the highway at higher speeds. My Dodge had terrible wind noise and some vibration that I always thought was the drive shaft. The Dodge had 4.10 gears with a 4 speed and the Chevy had 3.73 gears with a 6 speed. It is so much quieter and vibration free. Its overall just a nicer truck, 7 years of technology and improvements makes a difference. The trip meter shows its getting 15 mpg. It was about an hour and a half drive and we had a head wind going up and a tail wind coming back with the new truck so I'm expecting the fuel mileage to get worse. It has great headlights also compared to the Dodge and seeing we live in a rural area with a lot of deer, thats nice. Its also certified used so its coming with a 12 month bumper to bumper warranty, on star, 3 months of XM radio, and 4 free oil changes.

Part of the deal of going truck shopping today was prom dress shopping with my wife and daughter afterwards. We bought the truck in Mount Pleasant Iowa and it seems its the prom dress capital of the world. Here is a pic while I was waiting outside the dress shop.

Thats a gorgeous truck! Love the red too. I thinking 2500hd gasser next, dont need a diesel, but wsnt a bit heavier truck. Please keep the updates coming!

I highly recomment getting the Chey ridt proofed, the runny oil works best.

Nice truck! That 6.0 should last you for thousands and thousands of trouble free miles. They're basically bomb proof. I think my next truck is going to be a 3/4 gas mainly because they've ruined 1/2 tons for me with all the gadgetry like AFM and other nonsense. The 3/4 ton trucks also seem to be a better value compared to 1/2 trucks in my opinion.

Thats my other readon for going hd next time. Very little gain from afm.

A GM does go down the road nicer then a Dodge.

I drive a GM 2500 and don't really need to. You sure feel it in the pocket book when it needs brakes and service!

The basic GM may be bomb proof, but it's all the crazy expensive gadgets failing that make my joy of ownership fall somewhat short.

I went from a 2004 GMC 1500 SLT to a 2011 GMC 1500 SL (bought last March!) And the only things I miss is the auto dimming mirrors, rear window defroster and the reverse mirror tilt. Too many gadgets are standard these dasys, I think they should strip some off.

Excellent points on the maintenance. The AFM can be turned off, and the 1500's are no slouch when towing either.
