Another Bridge Project

Funny, but I'm torn by how much it costs to keep my dozer running versus what it would cost to hire it done. The numbers are not even close, but I still dream about hiring it out when I need to fix something on it. hahaha

Simpson is a manufacture of metal ties and straps for home building. They add tremendous strength to a home and are all pre made for fast and easy use.

I didn't realize how massive your timber and luber was, so instead to Simpson products, you might want to consider buying some Iron that you can set into the concrete. Just tie it into the rebar when you build your forms for the footings. Then you can bolt the beams to the iron.

This probably doesn't make allot of sense to you, so if you want, email me. I sort of rely on pictures to explain things and realize my typing isn't very easy to understand.

Next, after setting the footings and support poles, dirt was moved in to provide a support for the footings and a transition for vehicles using the bridge. Next step, which begins as soon as Erin leaves the area, will be to add the timbers, then the cross boards, and then the track boards. Final step will be to add additional support to secure the bridge against wash-outs...time is of the essence with hurricane Dean a real possibility for my area late next week. Comments welcome.

Looks like you are off to a good start!!! It also looks like dozer tracls that I see in the dirt. Must be good to have it up and running again!!! I know that I have withdrawels when mine is out of operation.

Keep the pics coming, I'm real curious to see how you put it together and finish it off!!!!!!!

Thanks
Eddie

Eddie,

Yeah, I suffer mightly when the dozer is down....rejoice when its back in operation...and suffer again when something else breaks...but I wouldn't be without one as long as I have rural property.

The timbers are now in place as shown below...the bridge is ready for the cross boards and then the track boards which I'll start putting down tomorrow.

Moving those large, heavy timbers onto the foundation was really a chore for a one man operation. I had to use two machines, the dozer and tractor, 2 comealongs, and chains to get them in the right spot. In retrospect, I probably should have hired some help...but in the independent spirit that sometimes gets me in trouble, I did it all myself.

The two groups of three timbers are spaced to support the tracks on my Case 450 c dozer. Anyone think the bridge won't support the dozer? We will be finding out in a few days....fortunately the drop isn't great in the event this project turns bad. More later.

Success...mission accomplished...at least its does indeed hold my small dozer without any evidence at all of strain on the supporting timbers. If the bridge will stay in place during seasonal floods, then its a winner.

Total cost around $200.
