Thanks JDGreen. It's something that we've wanted to do for a long time. Our problem was we could never agree on how much land to buy. I wanted 40 acres and she wanted 3. I told her that 3 acres was just a big lawn. So......we finally compromised on this 10 acres. Part of the deal was she would share the mowing duties. So I bought her a JD LT280 and she's all set. Kind of nice having his and hers tractors! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's some shots of the inside framing going in. This an arched entry way into the family room.

SteveInMo,
WOW! Most impressive roof I have seen in a long time. Must have been a heck of a job for the carpenters to build that roof.
What kind of roof are you going to put on it?

What have you selected for the outside of the home? Brick, siding, etc?

Plese keep the photo's coming. I always love to see new home construction. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Steve,

Very impressive. Your property is very much what I envisioned getting when we were looking for land. Love the open space. And the pond. We ended up with wooded land and a creek. However, I got such a good price I couldn't turn it down.

Love your home. I noticed that construction began in Aug 2004. What was your total build time? We are at the 7 month mark now with probably 2-3 more months to go until completion.

Nice project.

Rox,

Thanks! Yeah, the roof was a challenge. Fortunately we spent a lot of time with the architect in the design stage and it really helped the framing crew. But there are certainly a lot of agles.

The roof is architectural composite shingles. I can't remember the name off the top of my head - 45 year warranty. Yeah right! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Like I'll be around then.

Actually all of this is past tense. We broke ground in July of 2004 and moved in June of 2005, so we've been in around six months now. I took lots of pictures so that I could post them here. Just now finally got around to doing it.

Most of the exterior is brick (you'll see it in some future pic's). We made a couple of sections stucco just to break up the monotony of the brick.

Thanks for the comments. I'll try to posts some more soon.

nasty,

Thanks for the compliments! The soil does look very rich in the early excavation photos. But I live in Clay county Missouri if that tells you anything. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif There is some pretty good top soil in areas but lots of clay too.

bmac,

Thanks for the compliments! You've got a really nice place going yourself.

We would love to have some of your trees. And a creek would be nice too. Do you deliver?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We were just a couple weeks shy of a year from ground breaking to move in day. Sounds like you're about of schedule. We probably could have done it quicker but I told the builder I wasn't in a hurry and wanted things done right. If only he'd listened! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Actually most things went pretty well for a project like this. But there were times..........

I've enjoyed reading your thread. At seven months I would say you're about on schedule. There are some similarities that I've noticed. Here's a pic of our fireplace wall with built in bookcases on either side. Looks like that's what you've got going too.

Steve

Beautiful, good luck with the new house project.

hey, btw, the soil around your house looks really good, rich... Looks like a great spot for a vegetable patch! You'll need more tractors to tend to it!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
