Another tooth bar topic

With all this talk about tooth bars lately I thought I might as well throw a question out there too.
I have a tooth bar and it's very handy, but I've always wondered why the teeth are upside down compared to the teeth on backhoes, box blades etc.?

Yes sorry, I'm talking about the actual backhoe bucket that you dig with. If you look at the bucket as you pull it toward the operator's seat the teeth are upside down compared to the teeth on a toothbar. The teeth on a backhoe dig with the flat side, same way with the scarfiers on a boxblade. This is opposite of a toothbar for a tractor fel.

Every toothbar I've seen, the teeth are flat on the bottom, just like a backhoe bucket.

Did yours get bolted on upside down or something?

Yes, my teeth are flat on the bottom. What I mean is toothbar teeth dig with the opposite side of the tooth when compared to a boxblade scarfier of backhoe tooth. The boxblade uses the flat side of the tooth to dig (same with a backhoe) and the toothbar uses the other side.

Backhoes dig, boxblades (scarifiers down) dig, front loaders load, front loaders with teeth scrape. They are neither designed for or intended for anything more radical than scraping maybe 4" below level. So. Teeth one way so backhoes and boxblade (scarifiers down) can dig, teeth the other way so front loaders can scrape.

The flat part of the tooth goes to the side that gets the most wear.

That's scraping on the ground with a loader edge.

Or facing the dirt it is diffing with the other 2 implements.

So, your FEL bucket teeth are the same as backhoe bucket teeth. Glad you have that straightened out in your mind. The teeth dig and curl the loosened dirt into the bucket. The FEL pushes the bucket, the Backhoe pulls the bucket.

Boxblade is a tooth for ripping. But don't think any are "upside down" as in the original question (post of why).

Now you can rest easy.
