Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

Most we have seen at one time is three. I put out 1 cup split in two feeders so can not be many birds.

We still have at least three (could be more, wish they would wear name tags :) )
Refilled feeder and they have been hitting it hard, probably will leave soon

We have had less this year I think. Had 6 earlier but down to 2 now. Seems in the past few years we could count 10 or more on our 6 feeders that are here and there around the house and garage.

I have not been able to watch the feeders much lately, but it seems the Alaskan/Canada contingent of Rufous have been headed south based on feeder usage. Sorry to see them go, but I love or resident Annas.

Hummers have left town. Last week we were seeing ~50. Earlier this week the count suddenly dropped to 3. Today - zero. I'm not sure if they left town due to the hurricane forecasted to come through here, or perhaps it just that time of the year for them to seek a better place to winter.
At any rate, we enjoy them when they're here, and will have plenty of food for them when they decided to return.

On the south shore of the big lake, we've not seen any for some time. Seems earlier than average.

Our hummers left about 3 weeks ago but we did get one just flying through a week ago. The bees finished off the feeder so I took it down.

I will take down the feeder, last time we saw a bird was a week ago, probably flying through down south.

Idk what’s going on but I find a dead Hummer in my shop, laying on the mower step EVERY YEAR.!!

We haven't seen any in maybe 7 days and that's typical of Ohio. For the season we had less than average birds and figured out too late that our higher foliage near the feeders might have kept them away. Anyone know if too high foliage near feeders will keep birds away?

Maybe they get trapped in there with the door shut? No other explanation.

The Rufous travelers from Alaska and Canada are still going through, stopping to refill. We will be down to our year around resident Annas in a few weeks.

We have two still hanging around here in south central KY. That's down from about 50 or 60 as close as we could kind of count. Kind of glad that we only get the ruby throat's. Nice to see them come back in the spring but are glad to get a break come fall. We will keep two feeders up just in case some stop by on their journey south.

In the late fall I have hiked to a particular point on the AT high above the Delaware River. If you catch the timing right with strong, cold northern fronts in late October and November, on a given day you might see 25+ big raptors, hawks and eagles gliding south with the tail winds pushing them. They seem to never flap their wings, but just ride the wind currents on their long migration south.

And yet it always amazes me more when considering the little hummers with no meaningful glide capability.

They work hard for every mile they cover while migrating south - and it's a lot of miles for those poor little critters!!!

Year around hummers here with our little ones. I put up heaters on the feeders when we get an occasional freeze.

Been awhile since I was around that area. Back in 1978 I believe it was, before the Merrill Creek reservoir was built, Greg Hanisek who wrote an outdoor column for the Easton Express and a few others hawk watchers counted approximately 18,000 broadwing's in one day. No lie.

It's a pretty area...and the Delaware River Valley is a perfect corridor for them. I can believe it.
