I put a deposit on a 72" back in the first week of December. I contacted them today and they said they had gotten a shipment in today and two days ago. They said they were not going to send any invoices out to the following week due to Christmas. Amanda said if i wanted to pay for mine while I was on the phone it would move me to front of the line for shipping.

Snow blower would not do me much good right now either, no snow just rain.

I just noticed that WoodMaxx now offers an optional USA made pto shaft for $150.00 (if purchased with the blower) or $250.00 separately. For those who have the WoodMaxx blower is there anything wrong with the imported pto shaft that comes with the blower? I'm thinking about purchasing a WoodMaxx blower this summer and wonder if spending an additional $150.00 is really necessary. Any thoughts/comments on this would be appreciated. I don't see the need to spend another 150 for the USA PTO shaft. The one that ships with the unit is fine. I did a slight modification to the gearbox - added a .040" shim (a inside snap ring on the shoulder of the main shaft) to quiet down the bevel gears and in hand tests it is now very quiet since there is no snow I took the blower off and have the rear blade on now.

The other thing, is the steel frame it ships in makes a great platform for a dolly. I got 8- 5" casters on ebay for $50 and used the top of the frame to make a dolly for the backhoe, and then used the bottom frame for a snow blower dolly - so I can roll the SB to the back of the tractor and hookup - same with the BH.

All in all a very well built snow blower but it doesnt appear it will get any use this winter as we are heading south from mid Feb to mid March.

Attached is a PDF of the gearbox and where I installed the shim (internal snap ring) around the shaft. This wasn't necessary but it runs quieter at least turning by hand as I haven't re attached it to the tractor and may not this winter!

What a disappointing winter in Maine this has been! Last winter we got about 100 inches of snowfall, so far this year, less than 40! LOL.

I was hoping to produce some video clips of my Woodmaxx chewing through 18 or more inches from a Nor' Easter, but that never happened. He're some clips from late December when we used it for the first time for a 6 inch snowfall. I will say it was nice to have for moving small snow piles that I created with my front snow plow.

I'm happy with the purchase, but I hope we get more a lot more snow next year!

Upstate N.Y. received 10.? inches of snow for the winter of 2015 & 2016, I believe it was broke the record of the least snow going way back when they first started documenting snow falls. But it's still winter and you never know what Mother Nature will surprise us with.

I too have been looking at the woodmax since my blower search has started. One thing I'm finding is there is a sweet spot for walloping snow. Obviously a big fan is key, but I think there is more to it. I like so many things about the woodmax, except for their videos showing (to me) average snow throw distance.

In my research, I found some interesting things. A guy local was selling a frontier 64" (blizzard made I believe) as he went to a 74 since he moved up from his green 3520 to a 4720. The only difference in blower- other than width- was discharge depth and chute size. I recently asked if he thought my 3520 could handle the 74 and he said yes, but claims not to as he hates the 74! Like hates hates hates it! When asked why, he cited it moves show fast and well--- but doesn't throw it anywhere as far as the 64. Has me wondering why that is. A 35hp tractor with same make of 64 blower out throws a 74 blower with almost 2x the power?

I don't know what to make of it. Anywho, I have been watching tons of YouTube videos and seems the blizzard/rad and the same repainted/branded ones really hammer out the snow while so many others just don't throw as far.

Again, I really want to like the woodmax, but blasting snow far is very important to me. Any thoughts folks???

Obviously, we can't attest how far the local guy's blowers actually threw the snow...or the moisture content of the snow. Snow with a higher moisture content (wet snow) doesn't throw too far...dry snow can go quite a ways.
We don't know how the 74" chute was set compared to the 64" unit.

BTW, his 3520 should have easily handled the 74" snow blower...I had a 74" Woods brand blower behind a Deere 4400 which has about the same PTO HP as the 3520. I'm suspecting he has buyer's remorse.

I have a 74" Frontier (Deere) blower behind a 4520. This one is manufactured by RAD. Haven't had a chance to see how it works yet. I really liked the Woods, but it had manual chute rotation (not a good fit for a cab tractor)...also, it wasn't QH compatable.

I seriously considered a WoodMaxx blower...in fact, ordered one last winter. Other things came up and I had to cancel the purchase. The only reason I didn't buy the WoodMaxx this year is I got a great deal on the Frontier unit.

I have a Kubota B3350 cab with front mount blower. See this thread for how I increased throw distance about 25 to 30%, all but eliminated clogs, and made clearing the rare chute clog super easy - snow doesn't stick to this stuff and it wears better than steel for aggregate.

I think woodmax has gone from 3 blade to 4 blade fan, their scratch and dent section on the website has the fan listed as 3 blade, hard to tell in the videos which blower their using

I don't fully agree.

Although I have been blowing snow just under 20 years, it seems to me that there is a Sweet Spot for distance. To light and it goes nowhere because there simply isn't enough mass (ever tried throwing feathers?), and yet too heavy and the machine just doesn't have the power.

So to my mind, light snow never goes very far, but wet snow can go pretty far as long as you have enough power. The question is, what is "enough"power? Never enough IMO.

My good friend had a SB60, which I bought from him and used it for two years...
First year not alot of snow, last year a little different. This machine is nothing short of amazing. Slowly backed into 3' Banks and the growling started, my Yanmar powered John Deere didn't even faulter. The unit is heavy and thick steel used, I didn't get the electrical chute or motorized deflector, but, I am doing a work around. Using atv winch and I purchased a linear actuator for the deflector, and one more thing. If your snowblowing on asphalt the stock installed skid shoes are fine, but on are gravel road they grind and plow into the road and fire dirt and rocks flying thirty feet away...
So bought extra heavy duty 16" skid shoes to help slid along our road. Mount them directly on each side where they should have been mounted, just my opinion.
