AR 15

I have a core 15. Mine is the model M4 keymod scout. Midlength and nitrided barrel. Looks like this http://core15rifles.com/core15-m4-keymod-scout-rifle.html but I have a vortex v-brite scope on top.

The gun you are looking at looks like a lot of bang for your buck. Stainless barrel and piston gun. Core-15 is a good brand as well as MANY others. They all make different barrel configurations, hardware, etc. Find what you want feature wise and dont be too concerned with brand.

The Grendel is a nice cartridge, but from what I have read still hard to get. 6.8SPC seems to be more mainstream; I know a couple of people with them that really like em.

For a general plinker, it is had to beat 5.56...

I think if I was to get one now, I might look at 20" barrel with fixed stock. That said, the AR platform is the is the lincoln log/erector set for the modern grown up!

I thought about the 6.5 Grendel version and really enjoyed reading about what it can do. The .308 is a proven powerhouse that I also thought about. Most of the others are so similar in performance to the 5.56/223 or .308 as to not be measurable. Others are not even close in performance, and the rest are not as easy to find ammo for.

I'm still leaning towards the 5.56 because of availability of ammo. I'm not thinking battlefield, or even home defense, it's more about giving Karen something to shoot and have fun with. Odds are very good that it will end up in my safe most of the time, and if something happens here, I'll grab my pistol first and go from there. We both carry, so it's going to be a pistol that comes out after the dogs do their thing. We have two Akita's that are very protective and on duty 24/7 protecting us.

Come build my pole barn and I'll build you a custom one of! :)

AR-10's do not kick bad. The action takes up the recoil. Standard AR's tend to be over gassed so if you get one with an adjustable gas block you can tune the gas to your ammo and get recoil down further.

If you go AR-15, you can also buy another upper in something like 6.5 Grendel to hunt with. That's about the best ballistics you can get with AR-15 platform. That way you can have the best of both worlds. Watch places like Palmetto State Armory for sales.

Don't worry about the front sight. I have a post front sight (triangle) forget what it's called.. Added a scope and you can't even see the post sticking right in front of it....
I said the same thing about hunting choices but now I grab it for everything... I don't care if it bounces around the ranger, gets rained on, etc.... It's just so much fun to grab when I just go riding around...

What model of "can" do you have there, and how effective is it, and what caliber is it?

Self manufactured via ffa trust. Titanium with formed freeze plugs. 5.56cal.

First one and never been around any other so not sure how it compares. It's supersonic so turns out to be quieter than a 22LR. Guys at local range said quietest they've ever heard. Would love to do a side by side comparison.

It fits my 22s and AR15

If it's GI, it's called the FSB (front sight base). The gas block, front sight are all one piece and pinned to barrel and delta ring (holds front of GI style handguards ) attaches to the FSB too.
