Backhoe Are you happy with your small backhoe

<font color="green"> Bob, I in no way wish to beat this horse to death.

I just keep getting the feeling that you really are more unhappy with the decision to buy the backhoe than with the backhoe itself.

Henro, that is a darn accurate statement. The decision was made without a lot of real logical thought before purchasing. That said, the BH has proven to be less useful than portrayed.

As for beating a dead horse, I find it tenderizes the meat.

That tractor is too small to mount a backhoe on. You can go rent a "real" backhoe and do more in 8 hours than one of those measly little things will do in a week. If you want something that will run a backhoe with any "meat", you'll need to step up to a large frame CUT.

I agree with Bob in the fact that they are fun to play around with, but I have MORE fun with my brother's FORD 555B.

Will your hoe off the Kubota fit your NH? If so, maybe I just need to drive over there and take that off your hands /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif For a small fee of course to cover disposal costs /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes I was thinking of that too, just did not want to drive to Chicago area to get it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If cheap enough I can make it fit my tractor.

The subframe mount is set up for the B2910. Also, my neighbor & I are partners in the BH. I'd be happy to sell him my portion of the BH!!! He never uses it, but he likes it. I dunno why.

His house is around the corner from mine, his office is around the corner from my office. We ended up becoming friends through business and now we share implements, and often split the costs. He bought the PHD, I bought the auger bits, etc. It works well for us.

Really? Comes as a bit of a surprise to me.

If I have 25 small stumps to remove from among other bushes without damaging the other bushes?

If access ot the area you're working in is between two trees that are five feet apart?

If you need to drive across a wet lawn to get to the area you want to work in?

If you only have a half hour's work to do?

I think you are wrong to make this general statement. It's just not true. For your work it may be true, but it's not true in general.

well, yeah.

"If one had a bowl of ice cream, and bought a shovel rather than a spoon, he would be unhappy with the shovel I would think."

My BX22 BH works great on ice cream.

I really do believe if backhoes were cheap, most people would have one...

Henro, that's hitting the nail right on the hammer. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a trick for yanking out stumps: you cut the tree down leaving a 4' stump. Throw a chain around the top of the stump and hitch the other end to your tractor. Put the tractor in 4WD and it will pull the stump out. You may need to pull it in one or two directions, but it WILL come out. My little Cub Cadet has pulled out stumps up to 8" across doing this.

I live in Maine and we don't have small rocks where I am. It may LOOK small until you start digging around it. Most of the rocks I have are half the size of my tractor. No CUT backhoe is going to get them out. The FORD 555 even struggles with them.

As far as planting trees, I find the pick & shovel to be good exercise. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
