Are your "hummers" leaving early?

Our daily population has jumped from about 4 steady customers to well over a dozen, in the last two weeks. On the down side though, Cooper the Cat has eliminated one pretty little hummer :-( I sure never thought a cat could actually catch a hummingbird, but this big cat can jump probably 4'-5' flat-footed.

Here in northern Me. most have left , we have a couple that are hanging on to the last minute I guess .

We have had unusually low numbers this year and my wife remarked this morning that those few must be leaving since the feeders are not dropping like they were.

We have had several most of the year, but the last few weeks our feeders have looked like this.

I think most of ours have headed south now. Only saw 3 this morning, so far. If it wasn't for the bees, not sure we'd have to refill the feeders now, although we do wash them out daily.

Not as active in SC Pee Dee as previous years, but we still have a few of them left.

This year has been a much busier year than normal. Had quite a few for a month early on (Spring), then a slow down.

The last 3 weeks, been crazy, all we can do to keep 6 feeders clean and filled. Still some fighting going on, but not to the degree as the hatching season.

Here in central NY I still have my 3 from all summer. I would guess they will be leaving any day now.

FYI - Hummers are now gone (mid-Georgia). Here yesterday, totally gone today. Hope they have a good trip.

You might like this for next year- data on hummers migration north past 5-10 years. Nothing for migration south.

Usually in Maine the last few are still coming down at this time (warmer last 10-15 years). They usually beat the frost. Last two nights have been frost.
