Are your "hummers" leaving early?

We have been feeding them all summer and had half a dozen to maybe ten of them at the most. Then last week their numbers doubled at least. There where at least twenty of them, and they where more active then we have ever seen. Four at a time at the feeders with others waiting their turn. No more chasing each other away, they where all hungry and just wanting to drink. Then yesterday there was only one. We are guessing that they are stocking up for their migration, but we don't know where the others came from other then they where up North and stopped here on their way South. Temps broke yesterday too. Highs have been in the 90's, but yesterday was only 84 and the forecast is for the temps to remain like that until winter hits.

Time to put up the thistle socks for the finches.

Only had 2 or 3 around all summer. Usually have 6-8. Last little fella seen at the feeder was on Sept 5th.

A few weeks ago they were into that "buzzing" mode which signals they are about to leave. I continue feed and although we no longer see them, the bottle keeps going down. I suspect the northern birds are flying at night and are feeding on their way through.

Our last one (female) left on Monday. There were two females here last week. We will leave the feeders up for another week or two to see if any more are going south.

All 6 of ours are still here, but a few more 50F mornings and they will likely be heading out.

Ours are gone. Last one seen was a week ago Sunday. Feeders are down and stored till spring, usually Mothers day is when they will start arriving again.

Yep sadly I think they are gone... away on business for a few days this week and didn't get a chance to say goodbye. A great summer here but the weather has turned. Only inhabitants now at our feeder are some nasty bees. Time to take it down.
