autocomplete not working

Got a question for you windos guru's..

I use xp, and normally when i reply to a message on some forums, I type the first letter of my handle and email address.. then the autocomplete gives me an option to choose a previously entered one... but.. it stopped doing it after a windows update 2 days ago!!!

I see that autocomplete is still turned on in explorer...

what gives?

What is your setting in Internet option-privacy-pop ups. On some site if pop ups is blocked then auto complete may not always work. They keep hacking explore and uncle Bill G. keeps coming up with a update. You may want to consider to Fire Fox, as IMHO I think much safer and better browser.

P.s , if you somehow cleared all your session cookies it may have the same problem. since two days ago have you gone to a site that you had to put your complete log in name and pass? if so, did you checked the box for the windows to remember it?

Yes I did put the name in.. etc.. but going back to that same site i still have to complete the username and email address even though I'm still logged in.

can't ditch explorer.. I work with a few gov't websites that ONLY use explorer or netscape...

so I'm stuck there..

Okay, correct me here if I'm wrong.You go to Internet options, then "contents", then "auto complete'. when you get there , is the user name and password along with "prompt to save password" selected? That along with pop-up blocker is the only thing that keep the computer from remembering them. Let me know, I can ask my son also as he maintains University library network while in school.

Not really, you can have as many different browsers as you want.

IE and FireFox can live side by side with no problems at all.
Been doing it myself for awhile now.

Try this

To change AutoComplete settings

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Content tab.
Under AutoComplete, click Settings.
Select the check boxes for the AutoComplete options you want to use.
Click OK twice.

If that doesn't work, I may delete the cookie for that website and let it make a new one and see if it all of a sudden starts working again?

Here's a weird one.

i got tired of autofill not working.. so i setup my google autofill with a basic profile with just my handle and my email address.. used it once.. got an alarm dialog box from explorere alerting me about autofll.. then on a hunch i disabled google autofill and erased the profile.. low and behold.. not my autofill in explorer is working again.

what happened.. did soemthing reset???

I think you reset explorer autofill when you selected goggle to be your autofill application. Since you disabled goggle then explorer had to revert to the state it was. At work, due to security they always running script to reduce some functionality when it comes to identity theft. At work I use a flash drive that is U3 compliant to run my mini browser off of a flash drive and at the sessions end leaves no cookies or traces behind. Runing script for explorer can not effect my flash drive browser (Firefox) setting. Glad you got yours fixed.

It really had me puzzled. I didn't want to use the 3rd party autofill .. but i already had a google tool bar.. so I used it.. explore 'complained' and then wala.. when i went back to explorer.. no problemo... guess it got jealous!
