I truly believe what you say about them not wanting any building being done out there. Especially by self contractors. I remember all the trouble you had before you could even begin.

Ditto. Your drywall screw inspection??? You must be kidding.

Bo, what is the history of that land? Was it a large ranch or tract that was divided, maybe counter to what the locals think was a good idea? I don't understand where the inspection, permitting, etc. nitpicking obstruction comes from.

This was part of a large Ranch. Much of Northern AZ is like that. But this is just everyday BS for this County. Every construction in the County must go through this. None of the locals like it. Many of them just don't get permits. You get electrical inspection, then you sheet and then you get screw inspection (making sure there is a screw every 6 inches), then you can tape and mud. They did a floor joist inspection, then they did a subfloor inspection, then they inspected the 2X6 finish floor to see if I had enough screws in it.

Every dwelling that installs Solar is suppose to get a permit, then they inspect to see if your roof or structure is capable of supporting the weight of the panels. They inspect the pad that you put a backup generator on, to make sure it is adequate and won't collapse or tilt later. They are inspection crazy. Since this is a non-traditional structure, they scrutinize even more. And since I'm an owner-builder, they scrutinize even more. The inspector told me that they expect the exact same standards for a home in the country as they do for one next to city hall. I figure I'll be done with them in about 40 days, then I'll be a free man again!!!!

Well, they should see some of things people build around here. They would have instant and terminal apoplexy. :laughing:

I'm all for encouraging proper construction for safety and energy efficiency but it can be over done.

You would have been finished a year ago here in Texas. Almost no rural inspections except septic I think.

That's about like here. 50' street setbacks (no side setbacks), septic and plumbing inspection. Shoreland Zoning along a lake or stream can get more complicated but it's related to lot coverage, vegetation within the buffer zone, etc., not construction materials or methods.

Well yeah, he would have to send all his rocks to a lab for non-destructive structural integrity testing and certification. :laughing:
