Sidetracked again. I put a roof on the porch of my solar shed. One year I could not open the door due to snow and ice. I have the felt on now and expect to shingle it tomorrow.

About a month ago I managed to get the footers done for my porch, before the cold weather. I probably will not do much more until March, but it was nice getting this part behind me.

Good Evening Mr. Fuller. I see on weather map that you are having another snowy storm.
Ever get to Kingman and go up the Mt. Walapii(Sp). Worked with a man that was on top in Micro wave communication building . when started to snow was unable leave due to depth of snow. After driving from Seligman to assist him Co. hired a D-8 with snow blade and on 3rd day got with in a mile of the top.The man had snow shoes and we contacted him to start walking and I would wait where the dozer had turned around and after all day into the dark evening saw him getting close to truck. Helped him into the truck and driving toward motel he explained why it took so long walking was due to falling into the tree tops and having to climb back out.
What is now I-40 was closed to Flagstaff but was allowed to drive if had chains +extra set and fuel and food since should go off road there would be no help. Some areas I was glad to complete the job and move to warmer job sites.
Wife still doing good with her health. You have built and interesting place.

So I'm going to use 6X6 beams to support both floors of my deck, and they will be bolted to the brackets I have in the top of my concrete columns. My question is how best to secure the 1st floor. My thought was that the 6x6's should run all the way up for best strength, but I don't want to notch my 6x6 uprights nor my 4x10 horizontal beam. Then one contractor told me you don't want to thru bolt it either. So I thought about using a 2-3 foot piece of vertical 6x6 on each post and then using a Strong Tie CC5 1/4-6 (or CC66) and setting the 4x10 right on top of the short 6x6's. Then use another Strong tie bracket to secure the 6x6 that goes between floors to the lower deck. But another contractor said I lose too much strength by not running the 6x6 as one piece all the way from the concrete pillar to the 2nd floor deck. Shall I fabricate some heavy duty brackets to bolt onto the 6x6 and have the 4x10 sit on them (and bolted)?

Mr. Fuller Trust the weather is decent to work outside.
On the question of bolting your 6x6 for support. Look at the cross arms on power posts. these are 5X6 24' Length exposed to weather for years .
I have used these for under floor bracing in old houses where age allowed floor to sag and bounce with people walking
Got them used from power co. that had replaced after a storm and was rebuilding the power lines.
Knot free Spruce.
Suspect you already have a good idea on method . Now the building permit. will this need to be wrangled with or has the inspector been satisfied?

Ken, We did get a couple snows of 2 feet each. We needed it.
I forgot to drain my first flush collectors (rain water system) and they got full and froze. Cracked the top right off. I have new ones ordered.
Spring is here. Fruit trees are all budding.

Good Morning we also are having a beautiful spring with early flowers and plum pear trees blooming.
Spent the month of January building a fence around 8.5 acres that had no clean up in at least 50 years vines and brambles saw briers cedar trees were all thick mass.
Nothing like pulling barb wire through to locate the corner posts. Now going to turn in 5 large bulls to enjoy until time to put with the cattle later this spring.

Trust you and your family are staying healthy and active.

What's the next project are you planning. and has the logs shifted or settled around the house area.
