WOWOWOW.........That is one neat piece of equipment......Gonna see how what I am doing works and if it fails will for sure get this gizmo.......I need to get the trailer moved like NOW but surely NOT gonna tear up my 88 Airstream just by going cheap......Either way, this device is going to be in my budget next month to have on hand.........THANKS......God bless........Dennis

Yep the 3 point Bumperm mentioned is the way to go. I use mine ALL the time moving everything from small tractor dump trailers up to large eqpt trailers. It is one of my most used attachments and worth the money!

If there is any chance of a fifth wheel in your future get one adapted for that. Also once you put the hitch on you can use those things that fit in a 2" reciever. Like a winch plate, carry basket, etc. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/trailers-transportation/310599-what-do-you-stick-your.html?highlight=

Be carefully towing from the 3pt the 3pt won't drop, but only trailer weight prevents it from raising. A gentle stop on an incline or dip can make the 3pt raise when the weight pulls up instead of pushing down. Life altering bad things can happen at that point & you better hope you are wearing your seatbelt, have your ROPS up & have some luck.

I use a 3pt hitch to move my trailers, but am always careful & they are usually unloaded.

1350lb tractor for 5500lb trailer, 8' rise on 50' (that close to a 10 degree slope). Yessch.
Yup ...

Give it a try but maybe have a plan B?
Like trailer brakes or somebody quick with a block to throw in front of a tire?
I have a Kubota B2910 and a Country Manufacturing 2 ton dump cart.

I have towed it (the cart) with it likely well beyond it's rated capacity ... heaping full of wet sheep chit ... mostly on level ground ...

No way I'd want to be on the down side of that much load on that kind of grade ...

Loose gravel or wet conditions ? ... fuggeddaboutit ...

Agree - make sure you have plenty of tongue weight, forget about 10%, go high.

The slope you have is the kicker. I'm not sure how your tractor weight compares with my RTV but I have had occasion to haul my car hauler loaded with my mini-excavator behind my RTV. Hard, level gravel, no problem. 12% slope - very carefully. Wouldn't do this with a different type off highway vehicle because the hydro gives me braking control the others don't have. My boat dealer uses a small tractor you size to shuttle boats and RVs around but his lot is flat. Mostly I use my L5740 when I have a choice. I have a Frontier Cat 1 receiver hitch on my 3 point, upgraded to Cat 2 pins because that's the size my tractor has. That's similar what the boat dealer uses. I switch between 2" and 2 5/16" hitches quickly depending in which trailer I'm pulling

I really want to thank you all for your thoughts, concerns, and I hope prayers.......Really thankful that the "know it all" folks kinda stayed off this topic and I got REAL responses...........Anyway, my latest thinking is: I picked up the turned down shank trailer ball today and now have it on the tractor 3ph. Yes, am gonna send a pic tomorrow..........
I am going to BACK the trailer into the pole barn that it calls "home" now for several years...........As I pull around the side of the barn going forward, I begin to go down the slope, maybe 30 feet from the front of the barn. I plan to either put the wench cable on the front of the RTV and hook it to the axle of the trailer with the RTV in back of the trailer, kinda putting rearward pressure on the trailer. Or am gonna run a logging chain from a post in the barn, the bottom of the post, and then run that to the axle on the trailer with just so much slack in it . When that slack runs out, ALL will come to a halt.............and........the instant that the thing begins to go where I dont want it to......drop the bucket, and the 3ph which will cause the jack on the trailer to stab into the ground...........lol.....then bail out and clean out my shorts......We shall see.....

BUT..........thanks for all of the thoughts again........God bless.......Dennis

Your safety ties are fine. Do what you can to allow some give to prevent a jerk. Nylon staps are good for this. ... Dropping bucket and 3ph will do LESS than 4wd brakes and this bad situation will be compounded with loss of steering control.

Moving trailers around with a hitch on the front of a vehicle sure is convenient, and precise positioning of the trailer is easy when pushing it backwards like that. I have front receiver hitches on a couple of my vehicles. But with a hitch mounted to a front loader, especially those "clamp-on" ones that stick out a ways, extra caution is called for due to the leverage and moment arm. Problem is especially evident when pushing a heavier trailer uphill or pulling said trailer downhill, as the trailer will tend to push the front of the tractor off to the side causing a jackknife. Bad things can happen.

I'm not sure why no one else mentioned this, but what I would do is: low range, high tongue weight, and a heavy load in the bucket. The weight in the bucket will help keep all your wheels on the ground where they can give you traction.

Good luck.

It depends on how "slight" the incline and, considering gravel, on the tires. Turfs will be best. 10 psi tire pressure. Increase tongue wt if you can and add weight to the tractor any way you can.

Somebody sketched out this concept in post #3.

Yes. It would be a really bad day if you jack-knife and roll the tractor, wreck the trailer, and pull the barn over all in one swoop, For good luck, I'll predict this, because it's a universal truth that nothing happens as predicted.

The trailer is parked tightly in it's spot in the barn, the tractor now has the utility box back on the 3ph and is parked in it's spot in the barn, and the truck is in town getting maintenance performed and then detailed. All in all the whole shooting match went just fine. took ya'lls advice and thoughts to heart. I kept the tractor out of the situation until I had it up on the level ground at the barn itself. Perhaps a 20' area in front of the 32' wide by 40' long barn. The truck as always, moved the trailer up the hill as it has in the past and I maneuvered the Airstream up onto the flat area and ready to make the tight turns into the barn.
Chocked it in place, hooked up the tractor and easily made a couple of really tight hard moves and wah freaking lah.....in place...............

Got to thank aLL of you for your help, concern, consideration, and mostly your knowledge and advice based upon YOUR experience..............This for me, is an example of what makes this outfit so great........THANKS again and God bless...........Dennis

Smart move not using the tractor until you had it up on the level ground sorry I didn't chime in sooner just now saw the thread I did almost exactly what you were asking about a few years back with a similar size tractor and it was a little sketchy on the slopes and off-road but was fine on the flat.
