B2410 Vs. B2910

I've narrowed down my choices to these two; the B2710 isn't a player. I've got a 1 acre "lawn" around my house, so turf tires & a belly mower are mandatory. Less than a mile away, I've got 1 acre of "garden spot", 3 acres of rough stuff needing a cutter, and 6 acres that could be mowed either way. (I currently have an OLD Ford, with a heavy 5' cutter; and a riding mower for the lawn.) The big advantage of the B2410 is the greater manueverability and lower weight; the disadvantage is I'll need a 4' cutter & the ergonomics of twisting myself around to watch backing up isn't exactly the best. I like the "creature comforts" of the B2910 (hand cruise, telescoping 3-point links & steering wheel, and the seat "fits" a lot better) and there are enough "ponies" under the hood to keep the implements I have now. The bad news is I add 8" in length and 9" in width, plus another 260 pounds which may cause more damage to the lawn. I can accept the difference in cost ($1700), if it's the right choice. However, the wife thinks the B2410 is already "pushing it" for a super-glorified lawn mower. If I choose wrong, I will NEVER hear the end of it!!! I'm just tired of spending ALL weekend mowing during the summer and getting worn out in the process. So, I'm looking for guidance from all of the "experts" out there so I can "Pull the Trigger" by the end of the month. Thanks in advance!

I'm a very new B2410 owner. I can't comment on a whole lot given my limited use so far, but I did want to throw out a couple of observations.

In considering overall tractor size, make sure that you check your finish mowing area and clearances v. the actual tractor dimensions. The B2410 is listed as having a width of 46" w/Ag. tires - I measured mine (w/turfs) before I bought it, and it comes in at more like 56" wide (I have a 60" finish mower). To me, that seems plenty big for finish mowing, especially if you have a good number of trees.

As far as cruise control, the B2410 does have it. I'm not sure what the difference is on the B2910, and I know it is included in the list of "deluxe" features, but I'm not sure of what makes the B2910 system better if they both control forward speed (?).

I think you may add more than 260 pounds with the B2910, due to the way the Kubota spec. weights are presented (less weights of tires and wheels).

FWIW, I like my B2410 very much.

I had the same decision to make before I purchased my 2910. Had to spend a little over 3 hours each week with my old 7100 HST with a 48" mower./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif I expected to cut that time in half with the 2910 and a 72" mower. Turns out its better than that./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I can complete the whole job in about 1 hour./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I did have to trim some trees and shrubs to make room for the larger size of the 2910. After a summer of using it and trimming my place looks a lot better. Guess it needed trimming anyway./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Ron, Here I thought I was the only person who trimmed trees to make more room for the tractor /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. I replaced a JD 320 with 48" deck with a 2910 (no deck yet, but am leaning toward the 72")...I hope I see as much improvement in mowing times as you did! Although, I kind of like coming home to mow after a hard day's work - it's a relaxing job /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Anyway, for the last 3 weeks I've been out pruning the orchard, maple trees, crap apple trees, oaks with low branches, etc. Guess I need to start looking for a chipper now /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Haven't mowed yet, but I sure do like the size of the 2910 for plowing and FEL work! Seems to fit me a lot better then the smaller tractors...important if you spend any time on them at all. Still wish for a bit more leg room though (6'3, 220lbs)

Hey Boondox, the B2710 has the same dimensions as the B2910, but without all the niceties and two less HP.

I have a 2710 and use a 5' cutter. If the $1,700 is no problem I'd go with the 2910. I mow my mother's complete yard with my 2710 with rear 5' finish mower and find I can get in most tight spots, and the bigger tractor sure comes in handy on the bigger stuff.

Guess I'll add my 2 cents. I went shopping for a B2710 to replace my B7500. Came home with the B2910 instead. Partly because it was in stock, partly because I was sold on the added features. Some of the "niceites" are truly nice. The lever operated cruise is definitely better and the telescoping 3pt is super nice. I was just sold it overall after studying the differences. I must say that I really like the tractor after using it 80 or so hours. I don't have any major complaints with it at all.

Little advice..let the tractor fit you,don't you try and fit the tractor..arm reach..leg room etc..

Were you planing to get a FEL and a rear attachment later on also projects in the future,something you may want to consider.

I, too, was looking at the 24/27/29 series, and also found the money wasn't an issue. And while I have no seat experience yet, I thought I'd pass on some of the info others shared with me on the pros/cons that led me to purchase the 2710.

Due to future altitude and operator platform considerations, I knocked out the 2410. I, too, thought that the niceties of the 2910 would be worth the extra $1000, but then others gave me some pertinent guidance. The telescoping lower arms are nice, and noone disagreed. The ratcheting rt lower is nice, but someone pointed out that it's nicest if you'll be using several different implements, and changing them often--ie if it's set up for the bush hog, it'll still be set up that way next week. I was hoping the tilt/telescoping steering wheel meant more room underneath than the 2710, but was told it made for more "belly" room, but didn't go any higher than the 2710. And finally, also having to do with legs(since they are 4' heel to hip) I was told by several people that the 2910's cruise control knob rubs against your leg. Some said the easy fix was to use a bungie cord to keep it to the left, but you might want to seat-check to see if that'll affect you. Also, others on this board have mentioned problems with the cruise releasing when you didn't want it to, and then not releasing when you did want it to. As for the implements, there are quite a few TBN users who are using 5' happily.

I'll throw in my $0.02 for what it's worth. I went through a similar decision making process before I bought my B2910 last summer. I started looking at the B7500...then the B2410... then the B2910. Mine is configured as a digging machine with loader, backhoe, posthole digger and R4's. I don't cut grass with it. Oh, and my wife (and pretty much everyone else I know) thought I was nuts for buying it. The jury is still out on the sanity issue, but this board is a great support group!

I finally decided on the B2910 because I figured over the life of the tractor (which will probably outlive me...and I'm hoping for at least 30 more years....good Lord willing) the difference in $$$ between the models wasn't really significant. Plus, I've got this funny little quirk in my personality that always causes me to buy the "top of the line" when I go shopping...if the budget allows.

In retrospect, any of the tractors I looked at would have done the work I needed. However, I'm thrilled with my B2910 and am glad that I bought it. Plus, I don't have to listen to that little voice in my head say "You shoulda bought the bigger one!" (Thank God that voice doesn't know about the L and M series!)

Good Luck in your decision. Most of us have been there. Sometime you have to let your heart help you with a decision when your brain can't fully reason it out.
