B2710 (B Series) front axle klunking noise......

tires were never underinflated. never. Happens all the time in heavy snow with no tubes. I did the work myself on my tractor.

It does not happen when there is proper inflation to carry the load!!!!

I NEVER run my tractor in 4WD on concrete or asphalt. Especially if I have a load in the bucket.

When it is loaded, I know the front wheels are compressed because of the weight, even when properly inflated. This "compression" causes the front driveline to rotate faster than the rear. Since they are connected when in 4WD either the front tires or the rear tires must slip on the ground surface to make up the difference in the rolling speed.

When I have a load on in the gravel I can tell there is a bind when I try to shift into and out of 4WD. No load and same dimension tires (aka new) I can slip the lever into and out of 4WD without stopping. As my front tires become "less tall" due to wear, it becomes increasingly more difficult to make this shift. It is nearly impossible to get it out of 4WD on dry gravel road with a load in the bucket.

There is no one on this board that uses their Kubota's as hard as I have used my L2550DT for it's first 5000 hours. And it keeps coming back for more.

Still metallurgy evaluation and failure assessment indicate that casting fissures in the bevel gears themselves were the root cause of the problem.
Note the fellow in my refernced post only had 500 hours on his tractor.

Here is the exact problem I had, although my tractor was purchased new.
I really think most you folks are not qualified to discuss this issue:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/parts-repairs/140874-kubota-l3600-noise-4-wheel.html

I may not be qualified to x-ray gears, but then again, I am not the one that keeps breaking my tractor. It does not take an x-ray qualified person to understand that you should not run your tractor in 4WD on hard surfaces. 4WD is for traction, if you need it for braking because your rear tires are not able to provide that due to heavy loads in the FEL, then you need to add some ballast on the back, not destroy your gears by running in 4WD.

The bevel and pinion shaft gears are a matched set. You replace the bevel gear, you replace the pinion gear. Where are you from? Call Coleman Equipment.

I stand by my statement 100% that you do not have to replace both as a set. This is not a hypoid gear set, they do not have to be replaced together unless there is excessive wear on one. Go read your Kubota shop manual (although I'm doubting you have one.) Your A&P cert doesn't impress me, just because you are certified to work on aircraft doesn't make you all-knowing on everything mechanical. Several years ago I worked for a company that restores P-51 Mustangs and I can tell you that aircraft have very little in common with farm equipment, even less so with modern aircraft.

Sounds to me like you just look at your tractor and do not really use it. All bearing, seals and shims replaced. Differential and pinion gear replaced. All universal joints replaced with new pins. Front propeller shaft covers replaced.

As for my Kubota, I put between 200-300hrs a year on it both from farming and use in my construction business. Everything from tedding and raking hay, moving small round bales, hauling and loading manure, light logging/firewood collection on the farm to excavating, grading, fence building, and material handling for my business. There are plenty of pictures on this forum of how I use my tractor...

The part number for the matched bevel set is:

Part # 6C070-57210
GEAR-SHAFT(7T,F) 2-5 Day Lead Time
$338.43 2 $676.86

I also bought some new floor pans (rust), rear lights, and a spare front drive shaft (transmission shaft), gears, brgs, and seal just in case that needed replaced.

I don't know where you found that part number, but in the eight different parts books I have for B-series ( B2320, B2710/2910, B7610, B7800, B3030, B3200, B21, and B26) it's not in any of them.

I agree with you! But my operators manual on my B2710, B7800 do NOT state that and yes on gravel you can heard the 4WD engagement.

Here it is:

Item # 6C070-57210
GEAR-SHAFT(7T,F)
Price: $354.20 ..............from Coleman Equipment. Ya know.......Kubota may have had a problem with the gear mesh and changed their design. Although you can still buy the original ring gear, Coleman told me that Kubota sells the matching set now.......that is another issue that needs to be addressed.
