B3200 cab build

I was looking at the curve at the lower portion of the doors around the fender. What material is it made of and how did you get such a nice arc on it ?

I made it out of 1/8" 1x1 tubing. I made a crude bender bolted to my lanscape trailer. It took mutiple trips back and forth to get the bend that close. The hardest one to do was the bend for the door because it had to match close to the cab bend. When I am at work tomarow I will snap a pic of my trailer with the bender on it.

@Rob
your Cab looks very fine and well finished.
I'm curious to see how it looks whe you finish the project
i am not sure if i have understand it right but, have you glue your glass outside of the Cabframe or have you make an frame like this ?

i weld pieces of 30*5mm of flat steel into the Window oppenings, 10mm from outside so that i have enough space for 6mm laminated Glass plus the Glue.
At first i was thinking to do the Glass job by myself but then i found an Glass shop that do the whole job (Glass, cutting the Glass and mounting) for 380 Euro/495 USD. for German conditions this is an absolutely dumping price.

I paint the whole Machine because i was thinking to paint it with Green paint since i purchase the Tractor and now it was a good moment to do this Job.
before it was paint in red and you can see the old color inside the left fender.
The fender will be covered inside with black PU-Body Protection soon.

Yes I glued right to the outside of the frame. I glued it myself so it is not perfect but I hope it will work. In the first picture you can see a recess where my side window will be going. It is for the window gasket to hit on but I could of done something like this for the front glass instead.
I thought your tractor might have been painted. I did see the red on the inside fender before I asked. Again it looks great you must have a good place to work on stuff. Painting is hard to do in my work shop this time of year.

here are some pictures of the simple bender that I used to make the curved sections of the cab. The hardest part about bending steel with it is keeping the steel flat. I started with a board cut to the shape of the bend that I wanted. I slipped the end of the tubing between the bolt on the right and the board and worked it around the bend, but the tubing would spring back and not hold the shape. I had to change the shape of the wood and work the tube in smaller sections until I got just the right bend. It was slow work but the cost of the tool was great:D

WOW! That's an incredible job. How long have you been doing metal work? You should give Curtis some tips on how to build a cab. That really is beautiful. You've got me thinking about doing one for my B26. Do you have any pictures of it, as you were building it? If so, I would really like to see them. Can I ask you approx. what it cost in materials?

Hey Carl,

thanks,
you mean how long i have done Metal Work on this Cab Project or how long i have done the Metal Works before? I am a Mechanic but i left the Mechanik Job many years ago and start to be Landscaper.
From Start to the first Ride after finishing the Main Works it take around one month and a few Days.
It have cost around 1000 to 1100 Euro (1380 to 1520 USD), i doesn't made an exactly calculation about the whole costs but i am sure this job can be done with much less Money than i have done it.

i will not plaster Robs Thread with my Pictures so i can tell you a Link to my Cab Build Thread in an German Tractor and Agri Forum if no one have any problem if i do this, if yes i will remove it.

edit: forget to mention that the Thread is logically in German spelling but i think it doesn't matter to show the Pictures

Rob,
i have only an cold and frosty Barn where i can do my works.
if it is outside -15ーC i have only 2 ore 3 ーC less inside.

The most of the Metal Works i have done at Temps around -6ーC and -12ーC
My Propan Heater helps only to heat up the Fingers and Feets but it does an great Job when i paint the Machine.

I Build an Paint Booth inside the Barn, out of a few Wood Boards and a few square meters of Tarp and Construction Film/Foil and the Propan Heater was able to heat the Paint Booth up to 32 to 36ーC (outside was -12ーC and inside the Barn someting around -8 or -9ーC)
this was more than rated for drying process of the Paint.
I use an Resin Paint (no Acryl or 2Component Paint) with an Thinner-Hardener Mix witch will speed up the Drying Process.

I wish i have also Glass left and right of the Hood/Engine below the Windshield like you have but there the openings was only 12cm wide and if i weld some pieces flat steel to make an recess to glue to glass so the opening will be only 6 or 7 cm wide and i think it doesn't worth so i close this area with steel sheet.

I looked at all the pics from start to finish. All I can say is WOW, you did an incredible job. That cab will outlast the tractor for sure. The workmanship and design are just beautiful. The only thing you are missing is A/C, unless you intend on removing it in the summer. All in all, great job. Price wasn't bad either, considering what a new one would cost.

@Carl,

thank you,
the Cab is not removable but i think i will not get fried in Summer without A/C.
for the Summertime I will build some bracket to hold the Door open 10 or 15cm so that fresh air can came in and remove the rear Window and use maybe one of this 12V Car Ventilators.

about the cost of the Cab, i have had an option to order a Cab from China for 1200 USD plus Shipping but it takes at minimum 3 months until it arrives here in Germany. VAT and FEES and not inclueded the Hydraulic Modification make the price grow up a lot and it would cost a little bit more than my Home Made.

@Herringchoker,

thank you also for the commendation,
i would not say it is an Brilliant work because there are a few things i dislike on my Cab but i think this is normally and anyone have something to claim on his own project

I'm curious, what chinese company was that? $1200 is very cheap. I don't think it would have been close to the quality of yours. If you had a link I would appreciate it. Thanks
