Hi all. Purchased new B3200 and have 20 hours on it. After running garden tiller for approximately 30 minutes, the 3pt hitch quit lifting, and began making a very loud screaching noise when I pull on the lever. After letting the tractor sit for 10 or 15 minuites, everything works normal. When I would start working again, the no lifting, and screaching noise would repeat itself. Took it to the Dealer and they cannot repeat the problem. I suspect this issue will come up again so I will be prepard to video tape next time, but I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues, and what the fix turned out to be.

Thanks!!

What's the status of the 3-pt valve knob under the seat by your feet?

Forgot to mention that. I had already fully closed, and opened the knob checking that first.

I'd do a little checking on your PTO shaft configuration. Could the angle be so steep you're generating heat in the Ujoints, then it starts screeching? Are the joints and shaft extension lubricated properly? Does the shaft extend freely and could it be binding when you try to lift it if it gets hot?

Good one but the three point stopping? Could the shafts be just a hair to long and putting pressure on the pto shaft going into the tractor?

Yes that's what I was trying to say, he sure doesn't want to damage that PTO stub or the seal.

I may be completely off base here, but I have also had a loud screeching from my B3200 with no 3-point lift when trying to lift an over full box blade (rippers hung up on roots). In my case I believe it was the relief valve. I backed off what was hanging the blade up and was able to lift.

I don't know what your exact situation is (never used a tiller) but have you got it full of material or engaged in the ground to the extent it is too 'heavy' to lift?

Just a thought......

Yes, definently check the length of the PTO shaft first. That could lead to a very expensive repair if it is too long.

If it isn't something physically stopping the lift from going up (such as the PTO shaft), then it could be the 3pt hitch valve is improperly adjusted. I'm not sure what all that entails, but in the service manual it says that squealing noise can be a result of an improperly adjusted valve. It could be that it is close enough to being in spec that it works normally most of the time, but when it gets hot (oil thin), it squeals.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I was doing a bush hog job today and the problem repeated itself with the bush hog. So the problem occurs with both the tiller PTO shaft, as well as the bush hog pto shaft. I was able to get the cutter to lift. Basically, the screaching was lasting a couple of seconds, with no lift, and then the screaching noise would stop and the 3pt would lift. However, the screaching always occurs when the tractor is hot. I got it on video this time and will be showing it to the dealer, as well as bringing up your suggestions.

Thanks again!

Does it do it if you move the 3ph lever all the way, not stopping at the 1/4 in stop?

Once the tractor gets hot, say 30 minutes of use,the noise starts as soon as the lever leaves Neutral, and goes into Lift position. I took the video to the dealer. They told me to keep using the tractor and that anything that goes wrong will be covered under the warranty. Bring in back when things start slowing down. Honestly, that sounds pretty good to me. If I give it to them now, the tractor is going to sit for who knows how long before they touch it. Since I found that the lift will work after a few seconds of loud noise, and they are telling me anything that goes wrong will be covered under warranty, I am going to keep it with me as long as I can. I will try to add the video soon.

Thanks again.

I have a B3200 with 59 hours. I experienced a very high pitch screeching noise yesterday when attempting to lift my box scrape of the ground. This is the first time I have experienced this. The box scrape was empty, under no load. It lagged when attempting to lift it and screeched loudly every time I lifted it off the ground. No problem lowering the scrape. And, of course it is not attached to the PTO.

Sounds like a relief valve is not liking the weight.

You should be able to lift two Box Blades with the 3200. Check the limit controls. Will be a rod at the back right side that limits the travel of the 3PTH. See if one end is against the stop when only partially raised. Could be simple adjustment.
