I just bought a 2010 Chevy work van. Got about about 7% off MSRP - I think that is fairly good for a work van. Maybe you can get 10 % off on a loaded pickup ? There are a lot of rebates out there, I got the standard $ 2500.00 plus $ 1,500.00 in xtra private discounts-flyers I got in the mail.

You can probably get a way better deal on a 2010, bigger rebates at least, I think.

Finding a truck on Chevys website is tough with thier Locate A Vehicle tool. You can't spec out a specific option, you get all those trucks. I used thier Live Chat tool and the rep could search for only the specific options I wanted. She gave the perfect list.

I bought 1 State away, 700 miles.

So you are at $ 36K before your trade?, Maybe you can find a better deal.

They gave me 12 for my truck too which is about 3 to 4k more than I think it's worth..So that helps a bit too. The games that are played in this stuff are annoying.

X2. The games are annoying. I hope you can work a deal that you can be pleased with. December is usually a slow month for sales but we have worked 2 Saturdays this month here at Ft. Wayne Truck Assembly. We also run three production shifts Mon-Fri. Most plants run only two shifts. People are definately interested and buying our product. I hate it when someone tells me they wanted or looked at a GM product and did not buy one because the salesperson/dealership treated them badly or tried to play a number game with them. That bad experience is the #1 reason people end up with another product. The competion is very strong in the 1/2 ton truck market. A good salesman should...
1. Know the product inside and out.
2. Want a repeat sale from the customer he/she is dealing with.
3. Offer you a great price up front and inform you of all rebates and finance offers.
4. Make it quick, friendly, and painless.

To me there is nothing much more exciting than getting a new ride that screams "This is me and I'm all that is man." The last thing I want is a jerk trying to work me over and steal my moment.

Topkicker,

First thing: I've newer encountered a dealership that offers those 4 things. In fact, I'd be happy with any combo of at least 2. But no luck there either. Had one good dealer in my area (GMC, not Chevy) but closed as a GMC dealer. They were primarily commercial anyway.

Second: My truck was "born" in Fort Wayne. If you worked there in 04, I have to thank you. She's been a beauty. 147K miles and still drives like a hotrod. I will probably replace her as a daily driver in a few years, but still keep her in the stable. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

Well, i have to make a decision. The expensive one is what it is..they did show me a leaner one, but it does't have the HD towing or the 6.2. it's a 5.3. Both have 3:42's...There is a serious performace difference between the two. the 5.3 is no slouch. but that 6.2 gets it on.

just have to make up my mind if this is worth 7k more.

I can not see you being happy with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears.

Have you done any comparative shopping? I was a die hard Ford Guy and would have never thought about anything else until I drove all 5 trucks. Thats how I ended up with a Titan.

There were things I like about each and every truck. The GM had a nice ride and glove box. Dodge had good looks. Ford was the most refined. Toyota had great power. And the Nissan had good grunt and neat features.

There were things I did not like about each too. In the end I had it down to two trucks, the F-150 and the Titan. From there I had to make my choice.

You really should try each brand. You will be doing yourself a favor. If nothing else it will confirm that you are a GM guy.

Thanks Chris...I have looked around and I'm confirmed GM.no offense, but nothing else is appealing to me...

I think you're right about the 5.3 with those stupid CAFE gears.

The difference between the 2 trucks was very noticable. I think the 6.2 is slight overkill, but I always have the power if I need it.

Hate to cheeze out and regret it.

This will be my first new vehicle. I kinda have to do this. Been working 16 hr days for the past year and have no time to fix the 100k+ nickle dime stuff. The 04 is good now, but stupid stuff starts to creep up.

Hoping things calm down, but it ain't looking good right now.

Salary sucks.

Do you have time to order exactly what you want? It is surprising how quickly some of this domestic stuff is turned around. Also did you consider Dodge? I just got a 09 CC Hemi with 3.9s gears. it drives great!

No problem. Just wanted to make sure you looked at all the options. Some of the trucks out there just don't do anything for me either. We all have our favorites. At the end of the day its your money so get what you want.

By the way, the long hours and the crappy salary can be a good thing. Keeps you out of the taverns. Thats what my boss always tells me.;)

I have the wait time..In no real hurry. Thing is, the amount of money coming off of this is better than anyone I've talked to around here that has bough a new truck, and they are convinced they stole theirs. I think they want to dump the floor plan on this truck. Plus I have a somewhat insider thing going on.

Problem is, pickups are huge around here, so getting a killer discount is rare. Have to go cross country for that, and I just can't get a day off to do it. Might have done better in NJ with a dealer that I'm associated with, but the logistics don't work.
