While working the BH yesterday digging a stump out, I was sliding all over the place. Enough is enough, I want something to stop this from happening. BUT, I'm not paying $100 or more for some steel to bolt on there.

What have some of you used in stead of purchased pre-made items.

I want to see some HOMEMADE pads/Claws for the stabilizer arms.

Thanks

Check out Paul Short's YouTube channel, "4shorts". He modded his BX25D's pads for just that reason. He does first class work!
He may have posted here, as well??

OMG, dudes got tons of videos and most of them are long!

This will take sometime to find what I'm looking for. At least I might get some different ideas too. Now that I have a welder worth talking about coming, I might be able to tackle some more task I have been wanting to do.

Thanks

This is what I was thinking about doing....

Angle iron cut to length and with holes drilled to match holes on foot. Leaning the middle open so I can add a piece of wood, in case I need to do some work on a surface I can't mes up with the it digging it in. Making board removable with a wood screw from the top and the angle iron welded into a box to give rigidity, of course with some teeth of something cut into the lower section to add bit in soft soil.

Thoughts?

You can probably easily improve the original pads, to some extent.

Keep in mind though, with a subcompact tractor, you don't have the weight to resist much of the forces the backhoe puts on the machine.

Finding a better digging technique can help a lot. Such as curling the bucket under the stump. This works well to loosen them up. And, it does not move the machine around, like pulling the bucket towards you will.

Forgive the bad phone picture , it is pouring down rain and I was getting WET :ashamed:

Built these for my 757C on my New Holland . 1/4" plate for base and teeth . 1 tooth is solid all the way across , then other is tee'ed into it on both sides . Made a Huge difference in how the tractor does not slide around anymore .

I like that.

Does the plate unbolt? For is you needed to work on concrete or blacktop?

Lots of ideas for your problem's solution here- and if I recall, Paul fabbed larger plates with cross tabs, as well. I like the removable slide on plates- those will keep you from moving!

Yes , They unbolt pretty easily . You can see the bolts down each side , other side of bolt has easy access also . Am still working on ideas for Asphalt / Concrete pads . Something similar to this but without the teeth . Instead have rubber / canvas belt or ??? material . I to was not spending major $$ for pads . Think I have maybe $40 which includes the gas in pickup to go get the scrap 1/4" plate .

Here are a set of Cheapies, all out of the scrap pile.

12 inch C Channel with conveyor belt and Horse pad beat in on edge with holding bolts.

Great street pads and normal use also.

Planning to cut, drill, and bolt on some channel iron here. My hoe is constantly dragging me to the stump with the street pads.

That's the same issues I am having.

My welder will be here Thursday, so we will see what I come up with. Pictures will follow for sure.

I also had a sliding around issue in digging out some stumps. My solution, which helped a lot but didn't completely eliminate the problem due to the weight of my tractor, was to make a steel wedge design. My stabilizers came with thick rubber pads, 2 per pad, for use on asphalt/concrete. Each rubber pad has 2 embedded studs for mounting. I simply used 1 inch x 2 inch steel stock in their place and welded on 4 wedges made from 5 inch wide, 1/2 inch thick stock.

Wow, zmansmac- those look more like Medieval torture devices. You lower those onto someone's car, and they'll leave an impression!

if you have some time, instead of using horse floor padding, having access to a band saw, stop on side of road and pick up tractor trailer tire treads. i have used them for many projects. work great. i even made an edge for my bucket to use on snow so it wouldn't scratch the concrete. didn't leave any black marks either. cold made the rubber even harder. truck tread are free along side of road, just have to use band saw to cut them.

The U channel on my backhoe work fine. When I did not want to damage a surface I bolted in some scrap rubber tank pad treads from an M-60 tank when I worked at Goodyear years ago. Also made some out of treated wood also as a filler.
