What were the eight Kubota models you purchased the last 22 years...?

Yeah, I agree with all the post here about do NOT give them business if all they can do is complain about the competitor. As for a comparison, I found a dealer that deal both Kubota's & John Deere. I told them what I was going to do with the tractor and that I wanted a FEL. They told me that the bx2200 would probably be my best. I asked about John Deere and they said, by the time I equip them similarly ... the John Deere would be about 1/2 the tractor for the same money.

That is my feeling after doing research, too. But, I know little to nothing about tractors overall.

In my opinion, Kubota has the finest compact tractors you can purchase. The other brands have to bash. When you buy a Kubota, you purchase all Kubota except for the tires.
Neither JD or NH even make there own engines. JD's and NH's are only assembled here-none of the components are made here. The Kubota engines are CARB compliant. Steve Carver sends Kubotas accross the country-it's doubtful many JD's or NH's could be sold that way. Read the other boards and listen to the problems they have-which are numerous. Like I said once before, a dealer I looked at sold both JD and Kubota-he took me to the service area-nothing but green. A mechanic left me and went to a Kubota dealer where I bought-I asked what type of service work they did. He stated he mainly assembled new Kubotas. He did remember having the head off of one. If you want a 100+ ag tractor buy an american made JD otherwise Kubota has the upper hand right now.

No doubt your family is sold on the Kubota line...

I'm sorry your Dad had a sour experience 22 years ago with one salesperson that basically ruined the "whole bushel".{Today it's not very cost effective for the dealer or mfr. to demo a compact for a week... let alone a day, large ag tractors that are $50k is a horse of a different color however...}

I don't remember the exact figures, but Kubota basically "owns" the majority of the compact tractor market under 25 hp... In fact, I'll go as far to say they "invented" the compact tractor market for the United States back in the mid-sixties...

We have a number of dealers on TBN and maybe some of them can chime in and give up-to-date 2001 figures for market share... or even Muhammad may have some numbers he can post...

Anyways, competition is good for everyone as it makes for a far better product and keeps the pricing in check... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

No the 4100 is not made in Japan, it is designe in the US by JD, some parts are subcontracted out to Yanmar in Japan, some parts are Deere made, assembly is in Georgia. now the 790 and the 990 are Deere Designed, and built by Yanmar to those Deere Specs.

Another reason JDs are not shipped like Carver does is that there are so many JD dealers that you can typically always find a good/fair or reasonable price near you. Now that price maybe high compared to the Kubotas but hey, let's think resale and trade in here too!

I wonder where you got that information - I had always been told by my deere dealer that the 4100 was a green yanmar - tip to stern - and that 4200 and up are built as you describe, in Ga. with some parts from Yanmar. I would love to think the 4100 is assembled here, but you are the first I've heard claim that.

WOW!!!! You sound just like my local JD dealer. Please see and read my early comment in this very thread for my viewpoint on the whole "ya we're more but think of the resale value" argument.

I want to be politically correct here 'cuz I believe JD and Kubota both make fine tractors, but I thought I would share the experience I had when I was shopping for a used tractor a year ago.

For several months I was working with a tractor broker to find a good deal on a used 'L' sized Kubota. I had done much research and decided to go orange, mostly because it seemed like the green ones were spending more time in the shop, at least in this area (northern/central California).

Several times a week, the broker would call me and try to talk me into buying a used Deere 'cuz there were so many available at "really good" prices. As he put it, almost nobody was selling their Kubotas, and those who did were getting close to new prices, even with over a thousand hours on them.

Obviously, I held out for orange, and wound up paying a little more than I intended to originally. One year later, I am still very happy with my li'l L.

I realize this is one small, isolated sample of the resale issue, but I just wanted to share. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
