I know what you mean, I sold my 87' B8200 with 985 hrs. for $12k and thats more than it was new! And my neighbor picked up a 92' JD 855 with FEL, 72" MMM and cab for $10k. And he had his pick at the auction. No one wanted the JD's but the Kubota's were getting high prices.

Boy, is this a well-titled and one-sided thread. JMIII is doing his diplomatic best, but the Kubotan Al Quaeda is swarming the countryside.

I like the comment that JD has evolved into little more than a marketing organization. That hits the nail. Deere is no longer what it was for its first 100 years--a Yankee-ingenuity company that designs, builds and promptly services a leading-edge, tough-as-nails product. Like LL Bean and the old IBM, there was a tradition, almost a mystique, of solidity, quality, service and righteous honesty.

Now, Deere is just a name, a trademark, an internet-like illusion. Its all about marketing its past reputation and clever fibs about the present. And their marketing approach is poor, as people all over the country comment about. Do they train their salemen to be arrogant?

John Deere, the man, would not today want to own John Deere, the company. John Deere's past is Kubota's present. Kubota is now Deere.

Glennmac, what makes you think that Kubota is not just a name and advertising too? they are just as commercial as Deere, and their webssite is worse!

Pluus if we looked at the investors, Deere and NH probably own 25% of Kubota and Yanmar! As do the big 2 Auto Makers do with the Nipponese Auto makers.

Now why is it that kubota made in Japan is the greatest thing since sliced bread in you guys opinion and a Yanmar "supposedly" is an inferior product because it is made in Japan. Isn't that like saying Toyota is better than Nissan?

Glenn you are completely out of line with your comments about deere as a company. You just had a post earlier about how great the new deere was going to be and how state of the art it was and how could kubota ever compete and now you come back and say deere is a nothing company, come on at least if you are going to bash deere don't praise them in another post. Deere as competing in the compact market you have a little validity. In the farming tradition deere is unequaled my friends, period, end of story. Mr. Deere started John Deere as a farming outfit, not an outfit to cater to homeowners and little acreages. Kubota filled that void, I say good for them. But in the agricultural world John Deere keeps coming out with technology that blows everyone else out of the water. They are still the leader, no questions and no more comments needed. Everyone and I mean every mfg. in the country uses foreign labor. To be competitive deere has done the same with some things. But for the most part deere is still a US product. Deere design borrows from noone. They don't have to they just raise the bar themselves. Almost every single piece of equipment in agriculture that you look at it was usually a deere design first.

As far as the compact market deere was never a very big player in it because there wasn't that much of a demand. Now there is a demand and they are reaching to fill that void. Don't kid yourselves all of those advancements on the kubuta were designed off of a full-size tractor and deere was the first to use those designs, even down to the ROPS, john deere design. The new 10 series has advancements unparalled in ANY tractor line. The rest will be playing catch-up on these design changes. Once again it is Deere that has raised the bar. Yes kubota will respond and build a better tractor as well.

Deere is not content to rest on their laurels and they are shaping the future of ag. technology. They are still the leading company in agriculture and continue to raise the bar in every way.

Kubota is certainly a good tractor and yes deere dealers need some lessons in humility, I don't know where that comes from. I can tell you that around here it is exactly the opposite though. The deere dealers never even talk about kubota or any other mfg. for that matter. If you ask they won't comment about it or will give the info. and let you make your own decision about it. Having never owned one I can't comment about kubota and how good they are just go off of what other people say about them, but in no way is deere an inferior product or an inferior company. They are just as much on the cutting edge as they ever were. With their new design they didn't copy anyone they basically re-wrote the books. I really fail to see how you guys can grind them into the ground for bringing out new technology. All I hear is how terrible and unreliable they are going to be and what a piece of junk they are going to be and not a one of you has even seen one or driven one yet! It's kind of funny that the only thread that we ever had on what repairs you had done to your tractor there were jsut as many kubotas that had been in the shop as deere. I don't see anyone on this site ever bashing kubota so why does everyone bash deere all the time?

Based on what I've seen, having a JD tractor made by Yanmar is a plus, not a minus. That probably won't make anyone here happy.
