Backhoe bent rops

Well maybe with a full load going backwards down hill full speed hitting the wood shed in that spot could bend it .. I think a bx 23 plus a full bucket weighs around 4000 pounds hitting the rops with the height of could do it something has to give ... My dealer now tells me he has heard of other ones bending from what I do not no... I will be installing it with his help.. Hope no other damage to it we will see...

Why does everyone think a ROPS is so tough? It's not. It is designed to hold up a couple thousand pounds - that's it. It is not made out of big-heavy iron, it gets its strength from geometry. Forward/backward is the weakest link on a ROPS design. I could easily fold my ROPS in half running into a garage header - without a running start. Heck, I stuffed my backhoe through the front of my barn last month, and didn't even know I hit it until I heard the wood hitting the ground. Tractors can generate quite a bit of lateral power - I saw my next door neighbor hook an attached 3-season screen porch with his bucket - he tore the entire porch right off of the house - and he was running R4s, which suck for traction IMHO. Sure, it was hilarious - but the tractor's motor didn't even change pitch before the building was in two pieces.

I an exceedingly careful when operating anywhere near my houses or decks, simply because I could knock any of them down instantly and completely by accident.

I think a lot of people on this board have ran there ROPS into garage headers, and have never bent the ROPS. I agree, they aren't made out of anything special, but it would take a pretty good impact to bend one, its not something one would forget, or not notice.

There sure is a diversity of opinion on this forum which I find valuable but a ROPS bending like a wet noodle????? I don't think so!..

Oh and R4's "sucking" so bad they should slip before doing damage running into a porch???

This is not a hard thread - Boyfriend - in - Law is a jack *** and doesn't own up to his actions - Thread ends there! OP did the right thing making him pay for it!!!
