Case 870 Agri-King
Hello everyone I have a case 870 Agri King I bought a few months backed. The guy I bought it from rolled it over.Well I managed to straighten the cab as best as i could but now I need to put the windshield back in. The original one wont go back in because there is still a slight tweak in the top of the cab. So I am looking for a good replacement idea??? I think if I use plexiglass it will scratch way to easy so I am leaning to wards lexan. Any info would help a ton. It needs to have some give to conform to the rops .Thanks Again:cool:

personaly i would get the glass cut ,lexan is good too but does scratch i broke the back window out of my kubota 8950 and put in a new glass one any thing else just wont do in this case , plexiglass scratches too easily and lexan also and will build up with static electricty and bug you for years and the cost of lexan is about the same price as a new windshield

Not a lot of difference in scratch resistance between acrylic (plexiglas) and polycarbonate (lexan). The acrylic is much more brittle than the polycarbonate. Polycarbonate has some of the best impact resistance of any of the non-filled thermoplastics. Polycarbonate can be purchased with a hard coat that improves scratch resistance.

I would love to put the original glass back in it ( I still have the original glass) But when it rolled it not only tweaked left to right it caused a slight bow as well and we all know what happens when you try to bend glass lol:D

I used lexan/plexi as a wind shield and on a tractor it cracked from the hrat , sound and the shaking of the tractor. A huge waste of time and money.

If it is bent that bad then no glass will work unless it is possible to skin or reskin it with new metal.Other wise plastic is the only way.If you can post a picture it would help,is it glued or in a rubber gasket.I am not sure how clean you want it to look but you could weld some small angle around the edge shim where needed caulk the edge and glue the glass in.Maybe you can use body filler to level it.Need to see what you are dealing with. If it needs to move rubber gasket is the only way even with plastic.

Yes I have the old rubber gasket as well that held the old winshield in , So a gasket could be used. As far as the bend it is about A 1/2 inch bow.Ill try to take some pictures tonight if it is still light out.

Just wondering out loud, but if the cab (and the windshield frame) got bent that badly how did the glass not crack/shatter??

Windshield wipers will ruin Plexiglas or Lexan in minutes. If you have wipers, figure out how to get glass back in there.

G'day if it had bent the windscreen frame and cab i would be more worried about the integrity of the rops than the windscreen but if you think it is ok then keep straightening and fit glass

I believe I would first do the best job possible of straightening the frame and making it stable. Next I would get a professional glass company involved that is familiar with windshields due to both the tempering process (heat treatment after cutting to fit) and safety issues. Steve in Texas

(I have some 0.220 plexiglass for sides and rear on an 806 cab - seems like a 30X32" piece is around $30. Very easy to work with and a table saw and belt sander work well, but it sure is easy for brush to scratch it).

I tried to take some pictures but it was to dark, as far as the rops protection they only tweaked and never bent to far or cracked in any place and where I use the tractor is completely flat. The reason the glass did not break from what I can tell is the rubber holding it in gave and ripped allowing the glass to pop out.

Well after hours of tinkering I welded in a piece of angle iron just above where the old one sat on the frame and had a piece of custom glass cut for it for about 65 bucks.Well worth the extra time and money. Now I have all the glass put back in it and working on the body panels. Thanks for the help

Sure hope your using 'Tempered" Glass!!! And just as a side note, don't ever try to cut, grind, or fab tempered (Auto) glass! You'll be looking a 'bizzilion' chards!! ~~S

Dirtnut the best part was it was half the cost of lexan and I can put a wiper across it , now onto to working in the guages.By the time I am done I could have bought a new one :D but theres no fun in that.
