Gale, I hope you have secured possession of that mini. It mirrors my '80s Taiwanese Enco if w/o this fancy bondo and paint job. The column riser you show is a definite plus :drool: .. and is what mine lacks. (6" is it? :thumbsup: .. what that fine mini deserves, IMO)

Well, the vises and the rotab here haven't been in each others' way with the small one-offs I keep doing lately. Uh, if the one in your pic is 300 mi North of you and you don't buy it ... (that riser & spindle-to-table clearance ..)

Old Grind finally I get what you were talking about when you mentioned my mill has a column riser tonight when I ordered a manual based off your remark it looks like your 80's Taiwan Enco mill. Thanks for the tip.

My has the 7x30 table and from another source I had found states it is 1100 pounds so I think this will work for my Select Mill and for sure is better than nothing. Ozark Tool Manuals is a name I am going to have to remember if I keep hauling in old machines. Their website makes finding manuals easy I thought. I ordered two copies so I can file one and have one to get dirty in the shop.

On page 24 of this 1978 Jet catalog it shows that your mill is a JVM 830. In digging for a manual tonight I read there were few sources making the Taiwan machine tools and they would tweak from the same blueprint all these different names and build to the importers specs/price points. I guess Select brand selected to go with the cost to add the column riser and the 2 HP motor. Looks like the off/on switches floated around a lot too.

Gale I don’t think it’s often that someone lucks out like you did. The fact that the machines haven’t been used and abused is worth a premium right there. Plus the tooling and accessories! Good score!

What length blade does the power hack saw take?

I fell down a deep rabbit hole going to get one of saw blades. They were in a drawer of tooling I had not dug through yet but I will soon. The four blades that came with the deal state RE-ORDER RS1214-5 Brazil Starrett High Speed Steel REDSTRIPE Hacksaw. End to end they are 12 3/4 inches long and are several times thicker and taller than a standard hand hacksaw blade.

Gale you’re going to be our “resource guy” for vintage machine info.

A friend gave me this Taiwan power hacksaw for a “project”. It seems to have been dropped from a truck and needed total rebuilding. I had to refab motor mounts, frame, base, and repair the vise. It uses a 17” blade.



Pay attention to which direction the cutting arm “lifts” for the return (non cutting ) stroke. Hand hacksaws should have the teeth facing forward to cut on the push stroke.

Some power hacksaws were designed to cut on the push stroke and others on the pull.

I ditched the coolant system for it and use a wax lube stick for the blade.

That is one heck of a power hacksaw. I will have to check out wax lube sticks since I did not know about them. I do not think my 601 lifts at all but looking at the blade is mounted it would only cut on pull back part of the stroke. Now I know I can reverse mount my saw blade to use the other end.

The actual lift may be slight and hardly noticeable. Worst case scenario try mounting the blade both directions to try. Kinda amateurish but I’ve done worse.

I do wash off the cement pad after I've used the pressure washer. Does that count? There's four Hotsey's permanently mounted in the cellar with stainless pipe to different areas of the cellar. There's always one that's available.

He has a large root cellar for potatoes. There is over an acre of root cellars under a roof plus the grading porch and other out buildings.
