B John I’m the first in line to look for a good deal especially if something can be repurposed.

It is my opinion that sometime industrial pallet racking isn’t for everyone. For us tractor guys where it really shines is being able to accommodate stacking seasonal tractor implements and the like on upper levels with the use of a forklift or loader forks.

For the average shop one may be further ahead and find it cost effective with a Costco homeowner type with LESS depth (36”) which is more conducive for heavy items that can be lifted manually.

Re: Big Barn痴 Retirement Farm Shop

I bought a set of these shelves via auction a couple years ago. They aren't pallet-racking strong but they are great for many other uses. They certainly aren't flimsy and for the price (sub $500 for 26.5 feet of width) it is a great value. They are continually auctioned off by various importers.

Damaged pallet racking frames (the uprights) are often available for free or at scrap prices. Any dents from forklifts render them compromised and therefore unusable liability-wise.

They can be chopped down to size and with 4 load beams made into a sturdy workbench that can easily dismantled for moving.

For those of you unfamiliar to their design, here’s a closeup which shows the beam’s recess which accommodates “2x” thickness lumber to be used for decking if not using pallets.

This makes for an excellent workbench. The boards than then be capped with work top material of your choice.

Here’s one I made using 16 gauge galvanized sheet metal cladding the 2x6 boards. Its six feet long with a load capacity of 6000 pounds per shelf.

I’ve mentioned before that my neighbor rents the farmland I own and live on.

Here’s a view of some strawberries he planted this spring.

No one local is willing to work on farms. In order to be able to bring in seasonal workers from Mexico he must advertise for local help wanted, go through a process of documenting no shows and rejects to be able to do this. Round trip airfare and accommodation are only a few of the requirements that must be met.

I never hear of complications regarding the U
S./Canadian border. All the time hearing about Mexico.

I wish there was an easy solution to that problem.....

What do the locals do for income?
What a tedious process, you’d almost have to start advertising before planting. Any kind of decent help is getting harder to find.

Pretty much impossible for first time home buyers. Real estates prices have been DOWN the last quarter and average price for single dwelling homes was mid 700 thousands.

Homelessness is a big problem as it is in other cities with mild winters.

Finding quality employees is a joke. Many business owners are grateful if a warm body actually shows up for a shift.

Thats one of the kind of things I dont get, Homeless people not wanting to earn money. Jobs are available, yet people dont want "that kind of work" :confused2:

Oftentimes “Simple Is Better”

A couple of weeks back I purchased a box of well used welding clamps, adhering to that mantra that “one can never have enough clamps”

I finally got around to making a holder for them, overthinking the solution as I am apt to do. This is what I came up with. Combination inverted “v” and 1.25” pipe.

As it turns out the pipe works best for both these two types of clamps. Anyone thinking about similar storage I would recommend just stick with round stock.

I really don’t know what the heck I was thinking. Sheesh.
