Alright, here's the next story.

I don't know if the guy tested the pump like what Soundguy said or if he just started elsewhere.

He called me late on Tuesday to tell me the injector start pressure was about 200 psi low. These injectors are adjusted with shims. He said that he can even get the right shims from his supplier.

The injection start pressure makes more sense based on what the tractor is doing. I was a little baffled that the hydraulic pump would make it act like it is acting.

Check Filters and maybe check out some sensors

I've already replaced all the filters and the fuel line. The only sensors this little old tractor has are oil pressure, coolant temp, and charging system.

My prediction is that we'll get the injectors up to the right start pressure and then they'll test the pump and find that it is not putting out enough pressure. Then we'll either put in the pump I already have or send the old one out to be re-built.

:)...Then the baby will start up on the first try every time and run better than it ever has with more power and better lugging than a tractor twice its size. :)

Any word on your tractor yet?

I'm trying real hard to not be that guy that calls all the time wanting to know what's up with his machine. I knew that it was going to take a little bit to get the injectors in.

I drove by tonight on the way home from the in-laws and didn't see the tractor in the yard. That tells me that they at least have it back in the shop to be worked on.

Here's another question...

While I've got it in there, what are some good routine tests to have them perform just to know what shape the machine is in? I want to do whatever preventive stuff I can afford now so that I don't ruin something later.

Ring them up before they put the injectors back in and have them carry out a compression test . If any cylinders are low have them squirt a little engine oil down the holes and then re-test . If the pressures improve it means the rings are worn if they do'nt improve it is usually leaking valves . I do'nt know how much you want to know about your engine but this will tell you a lot . You can also do an oil analysis and this will tell you the rest of the story . Just ask them to cast an eye over the rest of the tractor , they know what to look for .

They have already tested the compression. Both cylinders are on the low side, but the two sides are pretty much the same. The guy actually had the comment about after you get oil flowing through the pistons the compression will come up again. I hadn't known that meant worn rings, though. Thanks for the insight.

It sounds like I may be coming due for an overhaul sometime after I get the fuel system problems fixed.

I can understand you not wanting to be the guy that calls all the time. I have been watching this post for 4 months now, and hate to be the one always asking "is it running yet", so I am glad others are doing it for me.
Still keeping my fingers crossed, hoping for the best.
