Black Smoke followed by sudden death?

Well, (sad music in the background) I think the saga has ended in tragedy.

The mechanic condemned the tractor this past week.

I'm going to go pick it up and try just a few more things to convince myself that I tried everything practical, but I'm no longer emotionally attached to getting her going again.

Yeee Haaa! "Out of catastrophy comes opportunity"!!

Now you can break open that change jar above the sink (that's where mine is...) and head on down to your local tractor dealer (or several dealer's for that matter) and git yurself another one!

And then when it's home and your honey knows you did everything to get the old one goin' again --- ya tell 'er that there's still a glimmer of hope --- you found a good used engine for the dead tractor....

And lo' and behold; ya got TWO tractors!!! Man, it's almost scientific; the way it adds up...

Best of luk --- whatever ya do!

Farmer,
You have my sympathy. I know that if you use a tool long enough, it seems to become more than an inanimate object. I'll admit I'm also curious as to the reason for the prognosis. Do you think a second opinion is warranted?

Well there is that fix cost vs. replacement cost thing to look at. But it still sounds like nothing major is damaged...IE hole in the block, etc.

Heck people don't like to give me their old stuff...unless they want to see me using it for the next 10 years!! :D :D I'm cheap!

I had heard that RobJ was cheap!!! In fact, I even had one guy tell me that he was "ALMOST" as cheap as me!
I think I will get in line for the answer to the question also, as most anything mechanical can be fixed, at some sort of expense.
Maybe we all need to take up a collection and buy Iplayfarmer a new tractor (read new to him, not brand new)
