bobcat 753 bucket wont go up or tilt most of the time Previous owner removed safty bar a long time agoand sometimes something slams on the brakes any ideas other than its possessed

You might get more responses in the Bobcat forum. There is a section for construction equipment. It sounds like you have a hydrolics problem.

Not sure how the 753 function lockout works, but on my 450 there is a rub block on the left side that activates the lockout. On the safety bar, there is a curved piece of strap, that works the switch when you drop it down. On mine, it is approx. 10-12" from the top of the roll cage.

Sounds like the PO may have put something on there to activate the switch, and it either may not be pushing in far enough, or has loosened up enough to not make it work right.

Personally, I would want that feature to work, even if you have to put another switch in there somewhere. Stepping on one of the pedals, when getting would cause the lift arms to raise causing injury. You could probably find a good used safety bar in a salvage yard, if you wanted to put one back on there.

I took another look yesterday. Th rub block on mine is for something else. The actual switch to cut out the hydraulics is on the hinge bolt for the safety bar on the left side. I would check there, and see what they have done, to lock that switch in place.

Does it have the BOSS panel with the green lights for various systems? It's possible that the seat pressure switch is flakey, or going over rough ground might bounce you enough to activate it, especially with the bar removed. That could engage the parking brake solenoid, which isn't good for machine or operator.
