Hi All,

I was doing some web-surfing the other day and stumbled upon a 3 pt. attachment called a boom pole. Searching this group and the archives, I've found very little mention of these things. At around $100 + shipping, they look pretty inexpensive. The ones I saw were at Northen Tool & Equipment.

I have a B2910 with a loader, backhoe and posthole digger. My questions are:

Do any of you have one of these?

If so, what do you use it for?

Approximately how high can it raise a load?

Is there anything that it can do that the loader couldn't?

Thanks.

I don't have one but I'm thinking of getting one. I have a spike tooth drag harrow which I use to to loosen soil before seeding native grass and to cover the seed after seeding. With a boom pole, I could pick up the harrow with the 3 point, instead of just dragging it around.

Rick, Tractor Supply Co. also sells the boom poles with 1000 pound rating (for $69.99 a couple of years ago). With compact tractors, I suppose you'd have to be careful not to pick up the front of the tractor. I don't have one and haven't had a need for it, but I can see how they could be handy in some instances.

If you get one be sure to get one made of square tubing instead of round. They are a little more expensive but the square tubing is stronger.

Can't think of much that it will be used for in your case. If you don't have a loader, it is a really neat attachment. Since you also have a backhoe, you have all bets covered pretty well. I have seen them rigged on loaders to get some real reach for very light loads.

Never though much about square vs round, but the difference should not be very significant especially since most pipe is heavy wall. Now if you will make either of those shapes from chrome moly material, then we will talk about some real strength of materials. Actually the square is stronger on the diagonal, but you can't depend on that orientation for most uses.
