Bottom Plow ID and Questions

Attached are some pictures of a 3 bottom plow I located at an implement dealer that deals primarily in hay equipment. I'm looking for help in answering the following questions: 1. Plow is painted red but looks like a John Deere to me, I can even see what I believe to be the original green. Can someone ID this plow (make, model, year)? 2. Plow appears to be a trip shank plow, with coulters and trash covers, is this correct? 3. Handle to adjust angle appears to be missing, is this that big of a deal and can a replacement be found? 4. I'm not sure if it is a 3-14 or 3-16. I would be pulling w/ a 50 HP 2 WD New Holland. 3-16 seems to be pushing it a little bit but could I always drop one bottom and use the third for spare parts?

John Deere plow for sure. Measure from the inside of 1 beam to the outside of the next beam. Will be 12-14-16 inch. The handle may be hard to find, however, if you can lock it in place that plows the best (usually slot 3 or 4 from the front), that will probably the position your crossbeam will always stay in. I ran one just like it back in the seventies and I am thinking 145 series, but I may be wrong on that? Ken Sweet

Thanks for the information. I suspect points and shins are still readily available for these plows. I read somewhere that they would be the "NU" series. So with all of your knowledge on plows, is dropping a bottom a feasible option if necessary due to HP limitations? I'm a little more interested in this plow just because it is close to home and I can get it for $450 which seems to be a good price.

That is a fair price with coulters. Points, shins, landslides and moldboards are available in this area. I am pretty sure the TSC type stores would also stock wear parts. Ken Sweet
