You know you have to be realistic about buying a 30yr old tractor. I am a car guy so I am realistic about something that old having a hidden issue. It doesn't scare me. I hope there are none and if there are thy are small and crop up in the first years, or even the first few hours. I am very skeptical about tractor owners and what they report because a tractor as a machine that is probability the most abused piece of equipment you can find. I have seen people do things to tractors they were never designed to do and people buying to small and "doing it anyway" and loading machine until it bends or breaks seems to be common. Not taking care of tractor is common too in my opinion.

Understood. But, for a someone to tell you that liners/sleeves, or whatever, are replaced in a tractor that doesn't have them.....WELL,

I think most if the missinformation is the salesmen not understanding the different models and what comes with each model ...that is when they lost my trust. On the good side they give you a year warranty that should help.

HS,

papertrailpapertrailpapertrail thats what I would have told you in a PM now its public record. :D

Good luck with your purchase and I believe everyone here will tell you Yanmar is probably going to be the best bang for the buck in 30 year old used tractors.

And we ALL do most if not all our own work and knew that ahead of time if you do any research at all before hand on gray markets you realize that need.

fwtw That's the big thing about Yanmar they are so simple and easy for the average guy to take care of plus its a good value in something used you will be happy I am sure with the brand.

he got the dyno test and all. Id try to get 150-200 hours on in that first year.

1) Actually I was told the same thing to start with but I didn't get a single piece of paper regarding anything that was done to it and I asked about that once I got it and still got nothing. See PM post above please.

2) I totally agree with put as many hours as the warranty covers in the warranty period and you should be good to go I babied mine for over a year and only put on less than a 100.

There in lies the irony of this thread from my point of view that and the liners I hope it works for you HS is all I can say.

Took delivery this weekend. The unit had 600hrs on it at rebuild. RCO swapped it before delivery when this unit came in with half the hours of the one I had picked out. This one was reported to be a very clean unit and I would have to agree. That's my daughter in-law on the tractor doing some mowing and getting the feel for the tractor. That's a caroni finish mower behind it. Unit looks new, got pistons, rings, bearings, water pump, radiator, hoses, fan, gear shift, battery, tires, exhaust manifold, muffler, and more. It really is nice. Oh, ran nice too.

I payed $4600 for the tractor with a one year warranty. Considering riding lawn mowers at Lowe's are close to that and a JD 740 diesel is 12k I think I got a better solution than anything like a riding mower.
