15 min job, even I could do it...LOL

Hole saw makes quick work of drilling the 2 holes in the FEL, the tooth bar makes a HUGE difference in using the FEL.
Just DO IT! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would say the BB can loosen up the 5 inch rocks, but 10 inchers? I don't think so. I think you'll end up wishing you still had the backhoe attached when you run into those. That's assuming they are lodged in the ground. If they are just sitting on top, or not dug too far in, then the BB should be able to handle it. Take it very slow with the tractor when you are trying to muscle the big stuff, of course.

My toothbar is held on with two bolts drilled thru the side of the FEL. You can take it of in a matter of minutes

NoviceguyinCT,

It sounds like you are doing things the right way. Your BH is made to dig, so by using it to loosen the dirt you are doing the right thing. Once the dirt is loose you can move it with the FEL by picking up buckets of dirt or by using the bucket to push the dirt. A box blade would not do any better. A toothbar on the FEL will not work better than the BH for digging. Keep working at it and with more time in the seat you will get better at it. Sometimes jobs just take longer to do than you think they should. Those 5" to 10" rocks are the problem. The only way to get the work done faster would be with a bigger machine. Good luck and have fun.

I learned about the backhoe this weekend. Was pushing brush with the FEL and ran into a stump about 2 inches high an 10 inches in diameter. Turned the tractor around and started digging. Eneded up with a hole about 2 feet deep and 4 feet in diameter to get that stupid stump out. Never could have done it with an FEL even with a tooth blade. I plan on using the blade more for ripping out weeds and scratching.

Very easy. Usually it requires drilling a pair of 1/2" holes with a metal drilling bit. Slip the tb on, tighten 2 bolts, done!
