Bridge for ATV

I thought that I would chime in with a slightly different idea. The picture attached is of my driveway creek crossing. There are two 4 foot by 16 foot corrugated steel culverts but it should work just as well with a narrow crossing. The sides are cinder block dry stacked and reinforced with scrap steel (rebar if you don't have the scrap) and then filled with concrete. The corrugated culverts are attached to the sides by drilling holes through the end, attaching a long bolt so that it sticks to the outside of the culvert and pouring concrete around the bolt.
My intentions are to face this with stone at some point in the future to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Jeff

JeffRey, The cinder block drilled in the side and attached with metal and cement is good idea and the the same way I did bridge #2 (no photo) as supports to the beams I got from an old house I tore down. That wood bridge goes to a small undeveloped island (another project). The attached photo is my tractor crossing bridge #1 and is at the beginning of the pond on the gully/creek. The rocks were hand picked from Lee county hills and double stacked. There was no damage during the great flood. The reason there was no damage is because the county land people instructed the Dozer operator to cut an overflow diversion which you can see on the right side of the photo. The water came up to the top layer of rock and then diverted to the right. It work out just like they surveyed. I would have considered the cinder blocks on this project, and still might but now every inch counts and I am excited about being able to use Harv's artistic abilities. Thanks for sharing the photo. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The pond the gully/creek ends in. New, no water three years ago. That white pipe is a 8" drain/trickle overflow pipe.

Wow, how big is that pond? Did you do any of the dirt work?
I wish I could drain ours to remove the silt. I'm guessing ours has 4 feet of silt in it. It is 22 years old. Would be a major league project.
TxDon, you always seem to have some really cool projects going on...Kyle

Kyle, the pond looks a lot bigger empty than it does with water. The dam is about 75 yards long. The pond was built before I got my Kubota and the neat dirt work you see was done by an excellent Lee county dozer operator. When you decide to clean out you pond I can recommend two dozer operators in the area that I have used.

Wow! A Harv's original right before our eyes is really going to happen.

Fantastic! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For all the lurkers (that is people who surf in but are not members) who are wondering what is going on with that bridge, the answer is a lot.

In the "OTHER FORUMS" at the bottom of this page there is a bonus forum called "MEETINGS AND GET-TOGETHERS" which only appears after you have logged in. To log in you must be a member - it cost nothing and you get no unwanted e-mails or spams - not a sales pitch just a fact.

In the Norte Tejas (north Texas) project get together thread, the bridge as well as the party is being discussed with great enthusiasm and humor. Today there are 115 post with over 2750 views. On September 25 The small sleepy town of Wylie Texas will will host an event like they have never seen before. TBNers from hundreds of miles around will descend on this small town for the most exciting day of their_____________. (fill in the blank - week, month, year, life)

Harv, has managed to sketch (probably in the shower) and post a preliminary drawing of this most unusual metal bridge. It has curves and rocks and wheels etc... How we will put it all together is still a mystery, but it will be well documented.
Oh! there is also something mentioned about a TV show..... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The attachment is just one of the many photos in the forum below showing the preparation of the bridge template.

Some months back I submitted a resume to Monster Garage and mentioned it on TBN. They explain on their web site that they don't reply to virtual resumes and a paper one along with a five minute VHS video is required if one is to be considered.

Within sixteen hours I had an email from their casting department requesting a video. I have to believe that was because some of the my TBN buds sent in some letters recommending me.

One of our north Texas members does videos and such for a living. He volunteered to help me with the video.

I figure the best audition tape possible would be to have it made at the norte tejas project meeting.

Who knows. They might take a look at that crowd and decide we qualify as a group for an episode of our own. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It should be fun.

Don,

I would dig that down a bit more and bury the pipe completely. You can then make a nice crushed stone path over the top. Leaving it proud of the surrounding landscape is asking for more work and $$ than necessary. A couple scoops with an excavator is all it should take. You can use the spoil to fill in the sides. -Just a thought.

Ahh, ..... but then I wouldn't have an artistic original bridge by Harvey Lacey. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
