Does he sell off road red dyed gasoline too?

My BIL hasn't ever heard of it, but what does he know?!?

As Allan said for most of us using .5 gallons per hour using dyed diesel is really just some sort of "cool" factor. Only a few guys around the weekend place use tax free diesel. Some it makes sense, some it's a convienance. They have a 200-300 gallon tank and don't have to worry about it. A truck comes out and fills it up. LAst Thursday we were selling dyed diesel for $2.62 a gallon, plus any fees and taxes if applicable. I saw it at the local station today for $3.28.

I buy what the station I am near is selling. If I am going into the town with the station that sells non tax diesel I pay the lower price and buy 10 gallons there. If I am going into the town that dont have non tax I buy my ten gallons of taxed diesel. In the quantities I buy it really dont matter.

Normally there are two tanks for gasoline, one for the regular and one for the premium, the mid grade usually comes as a mixture from the two tanks. This will vary from station to station as some have two grades of one hundred per cent gasoline and one that contains ethanol. Most stations will pump a lot more gasoline than diesel. The only station here that sells dyed diesel, does not take the padlock off of the pump until some one requests it, I have gone at four in the afternoon and the lock is still on. The amount of dyed diesel that they sell is very small in comparison to the regular diesel and gasoline. Another thing to consider is that in the colder parts of the country they might have three tanks for diesel, one for dyed, one for number two diesel and one for number one diesel.

As far as the number of pumps for gasoline, that will vary according to the circumstances and can be ascertained by visual count.

One other thing that I might add is that I did own part of a convience store for a few years. I do not recall the exact price, but some of these pumps cost seven thousand dollars each and that is sure hard to make up when you are selling your product for a few cents over cost and sometimes at or below cost. Then you still have to pay for the credit card fees, rent, wages, payroll taxes and a whole lot of other overhead items.

Up here in the North they mix the diesel with #1 so it dont freeze. There is no seperate tank but i guess its mixed ahead of time but probably cost more too.

1*you get 6% sales tax added when you pay.
That's still less tax than 100% of the tax on the taxed stuff.
2*Not a big seller in my area. Not a lot of farmers etc that will go buy it from a pump.
3*If they own a larger farm they have their own tank.
Then why not do it like the farmers do and get it where they do?Or maybe even buy some from the farmer.
4*getting it from the local truck stop where they turn over a large volume of fuel [non off road]
I'd say the bulk plant here turns over more volume than a single truck stop does of either taxed or non taxed fuel.
There are 3 distributors hauling red fuel from this bulk plant.
5*Im the little guy here who don't use a lot. If I did I'd probably have a tax number, and my own tank. Otherwise it makes no sense for my own use.
So am I but it still makes sense to me to have a distributor stop by and fill a 30 gallon drum at $3.09 a gallon than it does to take six five gallon cans to a truck stop and fill em at $3.49 per gallen.

I use to use offroad.THere are two reasons i stopped.
1] Even though the price is 10-to 20 cents different at the pump,if you cant produce a tax number to make you tax exempt ,you get 6% sales tax added when you pay.
2] Not a big seller in my area.Not alot of farmers etc that will go buy it from a pump.If they own a larger farm they have their own tank.I think it sits forever in the fuel tanks at the 1 or 2 stations within 30 miles that carry it.As alot of you know,i had magor water problems in fuel in the past.My diesal mechanic friend,reccomended getting it from the local truckstop,where they turn over a large volumn of fuel[non offroad] Havent had a problem since

The truck won't come to my door for less than a 270 Gal order. They are going to charge me for it and where I put it is my problem. I go to them with my 55 gal tank and they will fill it with off road or on road the only diff other than the color is the amount they charge me.

Before someone ask the 270 gal. is not an arbitrary number it is the size of the smallest compartment on his truck. The fuel is metered and charged out at the main tank yard not from the truck.

With all this said other areas deliver may vary according to the individual distributor
