Every distributor in my area has minimum delivery amounts that are far more than 30 gallons. Must be a magical place, that "First organized permanent settlement in the northwest territory"

Maybe they'll deliver that 30 gallons in a Honda Prius, with 6x5 gallon jugs! :D

* Nope it's because toping of a tank and a min. delivery are 2 different things.

Then you should have used the phrase 'toping off' in the first place instead of 'to have a distributor stop by and fill a 30 gallon drum'.

I'm sure if I just happened to be home when my heating oil was delivered, the guy would 'top my drum off' if heating oil and diesel fuel were the same product in my area and I used a drum to store my diesel.

I do not get diesel delivered but I do get propane and they could do the same with diesel. I am on a route. When the propane truck is in my neighborhood they automatically top off my tank whether it is 50 gallons or 250. The propane people like this so much that they give a 5 cents a gallon discount to people signed up for this service. It would seem to me that diesel fuel delivery could be handled the same way. You sign up for the truck to top off your tanks every time they are in your area. That way the truck is already in the area and they dont have to use a tankful of fuel to get to you. The cost of transporting a full truck full of fuel versus enough for someones tank is probably not that much of a difference to the delivery truck and they get to sell more fuel. Even if only 30 gallons that is still some profit.

At least in my situation, there'd be a difference between a propane tank that's sitting outside and easily accessible to the driver, versus a 30 gallon drum that I would have sitting in my garage. I would not want to let my garage open so the diesel delivery guy could top off my drum when he was in the area.

I don't guess I got any discount for it, but my propane supplier asked if I wanted them to only come when I called or if I wanted them to top it off if they were in the area, and I told them to top it off anytime.

This thread is almost as much fun as a "What type of oil should I use?" thread. Ya'll seem like you're having a blast.

Bird my supplier has regular routes that his trucks cover and if you agree to be on the route then it is a 5 cent per gallon discount. He also sells propane during the summer and then delivers it during the winter. I think he is a bit miffed at me. I diconnected my propane line while doing some building and have not hooked it up yet. I think I have about 700 gallons left from what I bought two years ago :) I belive the price has gone up a tad since I bought it. :)
