At least in my situation, there'd be a difference between a propane tank that's sitting outside and easily accessible to the driver, versus a 30 gallon drum that I would have sitting in my garage. I would not want to let my garage open so the diesel delivery guy could top off my drum when he was in the area.
Probably is a big difference unless they run routes when they are in your area like the propane guy does in my area. Then all you would have to do is leave it out by the garage on the day he is coming by and move it back into your garage when he is done.

something to consider, on or off road, die or not died fuel my not be the issue here at all. How the fuel is transported and stored may be where all these myths come into play. you pull up to the station where the fuel is stored in an inground tank with a constant x-fer then that fuel has less time to hydrate and there is a much better chance your fuel will be clean. Off road fuel is usually stored in some type of container that can be moved from job to job, exposed to extreme climate changes, and never cleaned out to see what the condition of the tank is.
to me on or off road fuel is not the issue, its the storage of the fuel !!!

This thread is almost as much fun as a "What type of oil should I use?" thread. Ya'll seem like you're having a blast.
Yeah, especially this comment.

Brother in law is mis informed. Diesel is diesel..... only thing that makes it different is the TAX MAN.

If one has a tank that will be for 'long' term storage, I'd suggest putting some kind of water eater in it. I put some Sea-Foam in my tanks. Plus, if you have a filter, get one w/ a water block (some spin on's come that way). And if you have a gravity tank, make sure the opposite end of where the fuel comes out of is a bit lower...that way the water, if any stays away (and same w/ sediment).

(Didn't read all the pages, but just a few posts....)

You should have read more posts.

In some places, On road, off road, and heating oil are not the same. Making taxes not the only difference.

All right, you made me speed read all the posts...some of which were just ______. Any how I must have missed it.... all I figured out was the ULS difference speeding through 11 pages. For me, it's still the same since all my diesels predate the ULS requirements- newest was a repower in 1993.

As I said, the basic difference is the road TAX. (Someone pointed out that eventually ALL of it will be ULS at some point, be it heating oil, on or off road.)

eta-
Just doing my part to make this the 50,000 post thread..... LOL

Ok here we go...I started a big debate awhile back about isopropyl alcohol perhaps being in Stabil and how that is a very bad idea for diesels. The debate actually centered around whether Stabil does indeed contain alcohol, it is pretty much a given that isopropyl alcohol is not advisable in diesel fuel:cool:
Are ya' ready:rolleyes:
Sea Foam is 10-20% isopropyl alcohol according to their MSDS
Here is the link-http://www.seafoamsales.com/pdf/MSDS_SFTT_US.pdf

BTW alcohol is a water emulsifier- the exact opposite of what you want if you are going to try to remove water with a water block filter. You want a water demulsifier to form it into droplets the filter will catch...

Let the games begin:eek:

Well, I just go by what it says on the can. It says it can be mixed w/ diesel fuel.... and it does work w/ gas, so that's why I have a few bottle of it around. Less stuff to store....

(Now how come I can't fine the cool icon controls when I post.....)

I think you will find Power Service "Diesel 911" contains alcohol too.
To use the icons:cool: at the bottom of the page when you are typing your reply click the button - GO ADVANCED.:)

Yes 911 does contain alcohol, and that's why they say it is for a diesel fuel emergency, they don't intend for it to be used all the time:)
