My feeling on this is that the problems your BIL quoted for off road may be a function of the individual suppliers of off road....old tanks, fuel sitting a while collecting moisture, etc. That alone, not the dye or sulphur content is the source of potential problems. If you have a reliable source of off road, (high volume, good storage, etc.) you should have no problems. I've used it for 30 years in a massey and kubota with no issues. bb

Make sure you are not buying heating oil/2500 parts per million sulfur content. It is no longer approved for engine use /

This hain't true here as diesel and heating oil is the same thing.
it all comes from the same place.
If they dump it in your tank for your frunace they call it home heating oil or fuel oil.
If they dump it in your drum for yer tractor they call it diesel fuel.

The good thing about it, however, is that what is apparently "True" for you, is patently False for mostly everyone else.... :rolleyes:

One tractor in particular burned a little over 5500 gallons of OFF ROAD fuel this past year.
Farmwithjunk,

How many HOURS did it take for that tractor to go though 5500 gallons of fuel?

On my tractor that would be 5500 hours. :eek::D:D:D:D

Or 137.5 40 hour work weeks...

Which is 2.64 years...

:eek::D

Later,
Dan

Not true anymore!! Diesal for off road has a limit off 500ppm but heating oil can be much more. there is no law or limit yet for heating oil. Ive been reading a-lot about this lately. here is a link with some good info.

http://www.nefi.com/pdfs/NRLM%20Compliance%20FAQ.pdf

Also i notice my owners manual allows 5000 ppm of sulfer in my TC55DA as a maximum so it probabbly could use heating oil anyway. Off road used to have hi-sulfur until just the past few months.

A big tractor can burn 2 gallons an hour and work 70 hour weeks and get it done.
