On my tractor that would be 5500 hours.

Or 137.5 40 hour work weeks...

Which is 2.64 years...

My guess was 4-5 GPH.

I have been watching some big MF tractors with 2 tires in each corner. Each tractor is pulling two pan scrapers. My question has been which is costing more per hour, the operator or the fuel?

They have been running in a small plot of land, 5-10 acres, for a month or so. They can't run in a straight line for long before having to turn. But they have made two big mountains of dirt that has had to cost a fortune.

If the tractors are burning 10gph that is $30 per hour...

Diesal for off road has a limit off 500ppm but heating oil can be much more. there is no law or limit yet for heating oil.

What's to stop somebody that has a home heated with heating oil from running it in their tractors?

My understanding is in problem areas [northwest territory] Air Quality Enforcement,sniffing dogs.etc/ Violators face stiff penalties;fines,confiscate tractor ,etc

That's a very 'beleivable' number FWJ posted for a 70-110 hp tractor doing a 40-45 hr work week on a heavy load.. like a big mower.

Easy to burn 2.5GPH on a large utility/small AG pulling a big mower thru material thick enough to make the governor help out..

(EDIT: I see I was right.. even underballing it a little.. )

What next are we going to have to register our tractors with the epa so they can find us so they can inspect out tractors once a month?

they are only enforcing the stations that sell off road to make sure it has 500ppm or less but the user can run whatever they want. you can burn corn oil, used oil, paint, whatever you want to burn in your own tractor at home but it may not run very good. Its the people selling the fuel that has limits on what they can sell. keep in mind that they will start making new diesal tractors in near future that wont like to have more then 500ppm of sulfur in them so any new tractor i would want off road instead of heating oil but older diesels will be fine.
