Small rainstorm = pond
Large downpour = lake

Ctpres, that's a fine job you have done with your Kubota, with or without the suspenders.;)

Moving right along. If they upload right. First pic is temp. dock using old walk bridge from ditch replaced by pond. Poles are perm. Hardpan was only a few inches deep at pole locations so I went down five feet and hit nothing but sand. Second pic is non engineer solution to slow poles sinking in sand. Simply mounted a cross piece on top of hardpan, hopefully the increased surface area will slow pole sinking. Third pic is perm dock support showing finished width at end of notched beam. Second phase of pole sinking solution is extra long poles. If adjustment is needed-just lay beam on top of poles and with cable winch, lift dock-move crosspiece up and shold be good for a few more years. Arn't theories grand

Fish House. One objective in this project is to use as much stuff from junk piles as possible. Decided old drain pipe might make a good fish structure. Cut into smaller sections and wired together. So far only out ot pocket expense for whole pond project has been diesel, grass seed and toothbar

I'm looking at those pipes sitting there and thinking now would be a good time to put a tether around them so they could be easily pulled up out of there for cleaning or removal at a later time. Either way, fish will surely like that spot. Also, if you have an old cedar stump to roll in there, they will like it too.

Thinking about tether but can't think what would hold up for years in the water. Any Ideas? Cedar is rare around here. Wanted to put a couple small cedar trees in but can't find any.

I'd just use nylon or a dacron-polyester blend rope. I think you will find that either of those will hold up much better than cable, though a stainless steel cable might do the trick and be a much smaller diameter. Something along the lines of the size used on garage door openers should do it.

Anyone in Texas build a dry hydrant system for using pond water in fire fighting? I was in fire alarm business for about 30 years and understand problems with getting systems approved. Local AHJ has already insisted on me submitting plans for approval. Just need info on what has been done. I will build it as long as I don't have to go with the code that requires galvanized pipe.

Around here we use 6" schedule 40 pipe per NFPA 1142. You can buy the pipe locally and then order the fitting for the dry hydrant on the internet. This is where I got the parts for mine: dryhydrants.com: Mainstream Dry Hydrants Home Page.

NFPA 1142 gives details on the installation and maintenance of Dry Hydrants. If you go to the NFPA website : NFPA and click on Codes and Standards. Click Buy Codes and Standards. You will then have to register to be able to see the code. You can view the code online. You will not have to buy it, but you will not be able to print it.

Get ready to spend over $1000.00 on a dry hydrant. The parts are pricey!
