Hi

Fantastic project, thanks for sharing it with us all.

Can I ask what you used for weed control under the stone base.

Great thread. What a nice place and wonderful looking family you have too! Around here they are tearing down old barns at an incredible rate. I hate to see them go so it's nice to see other folks putting up quality and attractive structures. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I haven't updated this project in a while. We've been quite busy with work and family events over the past month. Here are pics of the roof framing, including how we did the prow/widow's peak. While I built the roof trusses and put up most of the side rafters, I actually hired a contractor to do the roof sheeting and metal roofing because there's no way I'm going to put metal on a 12/12 pitch roof by myself!

Here are pics through today. Just a few metal pieces left to finish on the roof. I've started on the siding: it's rough cut 1"x12" pine.

Really looks good. Will be looking forward to the next update.

Your building really looks great! I just had a couple questions if you wouldn't mind. 1: why did you choose to plywood the roof under the steel? And 2: did you put in a ridge vent? Just curious is all.

Hi Darren, no problem and easily answered:

1. It's easier to put roofing felt on plywood, and you need something under the steel to prevent condensation dripping on whatever you're storing in the barn. Before building the barn, I had a steel shipping container with a little shed roof projecting off the side, and I parked the tractor under it -- there was always a ton of condensation on the underside of the metal, dripping onto the tractor all winter long. And the plywood will make a little stronger roof diaphragm than skip sheeting.

2. Yes, there is a ridge vent.

Thanks Marcus. I didn't think you would get the condensation if you were not heating the inside. I guess I figured if the outside temp. was the same as inside, there would be no condensation. I am just finishing my pole barn and didn't do anything below my steel thinking that was good. Now I am wondering if I screwed up.
